(We're rolling suicide)

Wake up (wake up)
Grab a brush and put a little make up
Hide the scars to fade away the shake up (hide the scars to fade away the)
Why'd you leave the keys upon the table?
Here you go, create another fable, you wanted to
Grab a brush and put a little makeup, you wanted to
Hide the scars to fade away the shake up, you wanted to
Why'd you leave the keys upon the table? You wanted to

I don't think you trust
In my
Self-righteous suicide
I cry
When angels deserve to die

Ah
Wake up (wake up)
Grab a brush and put a little make up
Hide the scars to fade away the (hide the scars to fade away the)
Why'd you leave the keys upon the table?
(Here you go) create another fable, you wanted to
Grab a brush and put a little makeup, you wanted to
Hide the scars to fade away the shake up, you wanted to
Why'd you leave the keys upon the table? You wanted to

I don't think you trust
In my
Self-righteous suicide
I cry
When angels deserve to die
In my
Self-righteous suicide
I cry
When angels deserve to die

Father (father), father (father)
Father (father), father (father)
Father, into your hands
I commend my spirit
Father, into your hands
Why have you forsaken me?
In your eyes forsaken me
In your thoughts forsaken me
In your heart forsaken me, oh

Trust in my
Self-righteous suicide
I cry
When angels deserve to die
In my
Self-righteous suicide
I cry
When angels deserve to die

I think it actually is about Christianity. We all know that the "father into your hands......" is a biblical quote, but it's actually two separate quotes. This is actually one "contradiction" that is in the bible. One account of Jesus' crucifixion shows him being understanding and sympathetic even unto his persecutors (Father into your hands I commend my spirit). However, the other account shows an angry, resentful Jesus crying out to God "Why have you forsaken me!" And what do Christians do when confronted with this "evidence?" They overlook it (just like car keys on the table) and "make-up" excuses for it or other "reasons" for why it's there. Why do they do this? Because "they want to." The song is showing how Christians try to cover up and deny evidence that goes against their beliefs, and how the real blame or "reasons" they do this is ego-driven. "They want to!" It's showing how Christians refuse to accept responsibility or accountability for flaws in their belief system. The chorus I believe is either from God's perspective, or is sort of sarcastically showing the response to those people who cannot deny these flaws/contradictions. They get told that they don't trust God enough or have enough faith and are made to feel bad or inadequate for it. The "I cry when angels deserve to die" is the sarcastic/melo-dramatic part, it's like someone boasting about how much they care about and love God/Jesus, about how "good" of a Christian they are, which, again, is used to put others down by acting superior and self-righteous. This song is urging Christians to at least take some accountability for what the bible really says and at least acknowledge that some inconsistencies do exist and maybe try and reconcile them or simply plainly state what they are instead of just proclaiming the almighty significance of your faith and expect everyone to treat you like gold when you turn a blind eye to flaws in your belief system.

Standing On The Edge Of Summer
Thursday
In regards to the meaning of this song: Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.” That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.

Little Feat
Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

Gentle Hour
Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,
