Summer '68 Lyrics

Would you like to say something before you leave
Perhaps you'd care to state exactly how you feel
We say goodbye before we've said hello
I hardly even like you I shouldn't care at all
We met just six hours ago the music was too loud
From your bed I came today and lost a bloody year
And I would like to know how do you feel?
How do you feel, how do you feel, how do you feel?

Not a single word was said the night still hid our fears
Occasionally you showed a smile but what was the need
I felt the cold far too soon in a room of ninety-five
My friends are lying in the sun I wish that I was there
Tomorrow brings another town another girl like you
Have you time before you leave to greet another man
Just you let me know how do you feel?
How do you feel, how do you feel, how do you feel?

Good-bye to you
Charlotte Pringle's due
I've had enough for one day

This is a song about LOSS. A girl that came, used him and left when she's done. He clearly stated that he wants more of her, not sexual more! But she's gone, and he's bitter.

Oh and are you guys emotionally handicapped, "he used her" where all the text shows the opposite?

My Interpretation

@אילן10 it says it here... "Tomorrow brings another town Another girl like you"

Also "We met just six hours ago" indicates a very short relationship

'On 4 December 1968, an incomplete version of this song, titled "One Night Stand", was started at Abbey Road Studios. The band kept working on it until 16 December, and it was eventually scrapped by the band on 16 January 1969 after a session at Abbey Road' Guesdon, Jean-Michel (2017). Pink Floyd All The Songs. Running Press.

This song was written by Rick Wright, it is about a one night stand.

This song means to me that rick is explaining about a woman he finds that becomes attached to him and he is rock star so he does not have time and that tommarow will just bring another stupid bitch like you!

whoever said that each band member did a different song on Atom Heart Mother is dumb, every band member clearly helps out on each song here. You're thinking of UmmaGumma

This song is strangely alluring. My take is that relations with groupies are worthless...there's no feeling, they are just going through the motions. I think Rick is actually trying to humanize the groupie. He knows they must feel something. Then he decides that there are many more just like this one. He feels sad wasting his time on empty "relationships."

@Tr4cy21 Precisely. Rick was a romantic at heart and he was always yearning for some elusive warmth and love he could never quite grasp in his hands. (Hence his lifetime of chasing after it with women and drinking and drugs and his loss of focus on musical output towards the end of the 1970s.) One night stands hurt everyone but they generally hurt men's hearts much more than women's — a taboo truth which cannot be uttered by a man without baring his heart completely in the process, what with the pain and fear of making yourself as vulnerable as...

I love this song but to me it's obvious he's talking down to a groupie. Fantastic music and vocals. To me the defining line is Tomorrow brings another town and another girl like you Have you time before you leave to greet another man

I see that noone has added a comment about this song. I wonder how many people actually listen to Atom Heart Mother but that's not the point. This song for some reason reminds me of the drug alcohol. "Goodbye before hello", the walk of shame the next morning. "How do you feel" Well after it's said and done how would you feel. Please if someone has any other honest idea please let me know. Aother theory I have is that each song on Atom Heart Mother is about a different drug. Goto that song if you care to see why I think so.

I have only heard this song form the album "Atom Heart Mother" and I think this song is about meeting a women, and then having enough with her after not getting a response on how she feels.

I doubt your theory Animals...the reason i say this is because atom heart mother was an album that came about in a time when the band was trying to find themselves (it was shortly after the loss of syd barret, their lead man and primary creative drive). They were also experimenting with different styles. Each member of the band was responsible for coming up with a song. They did and atom heart mother was the result. There are 4 band members, hence 4 songs on the album.
