Older Lyrics
You're older than you've ever been
And now you're even older
And now you're even older
And now you're even older
You're older than you've ever been
And now you're even older
And now you're older still
Time is marching on
And time is still marching on
This tale will soon be at an end
And now it's even sooner
And now it's even sooner
And now it's even sooner
This tale will soon be at an end
And now it's even sooner
And now it's sooner still
You're older than you've ever been
And now you're even older
And now you're even older
And now you're even older
You're older than you've ever been
And now you're even older
And now you're older still
And now you're even older
And now you're even older
And now you're even older
You're older than you've ever been
And now you're even older
And now you're older still
And time is still marching on
And now it's even sooner
And now it's even sooner
And now it's even sooner
This tale will soon be at an end
And now it's even sooner
And now it's sooner still
And now you're even older
And now you're even older
And now you're even older
You're older than you've ever been
And now you're even older
And now you're older still

I think this should be the the new birthday song...I LOVE it
Quite a brilliant song since you can be doing literally anything and it will always be telling the truth about yourself. IT'S DEFINITELY DAY NOT TALE. If anyone ever interviews John Flansburg ask him what it actually is.
This is a great song, it really should be the new birthday song. Sidenote, I thought the second verse was "This day will soon be at an end" instead of "tale"
Let me start out by saying how bloomin' brilliant I think this song is. F---ing amazing, really. Makes a great birthday song, if only it would catch on.
Also, I'm absolutely positive that he is saying day and not tale, Irrational is very wrong.
One last thing. I've heard two versions of this song. One version on the CD Mink Car and another, which I prefer, on mp3. Does anyone know where the non Mink Car version is from?
i've actually got about four versions of this song. there's a rock one, one with horns, and i've got a couple live ones. ANYWAYS: i just want to add that it's amazing how much this song can say without really saying very much. also: it seems like it's going to build up to something, then it just ends. kind of like a sarcastic joke.
My favourite is the Brave New World clip version (with the drums and bass, and guitar). It sounds sinister. The video, as well. It features TMBG in suits, and is filmed entirely in black and white, except for a red timer right next to them.
i also think the lyric is "day" not "tale." every time i hear this song i think of how much older THEY are since they recorded the song, and it makes me kind of sad.
For GefoMutt : The non Mink Car version is from "Long Tall Weekend", an online-only album released in 1999. It also appears on "Music From Malcolm In The Middle" soundtrack.
Btw, I looove the part when Flansburgh roars : "Time is marching on, And time..." ..then there is that silent moment of intense antici...pation followed by the "not-quite-expected" "is still marching on !" conclusion. A hilarious example of playing with the listener's expectations. &:-D
This may be the only song that takes place in real time. No matter what you're doing it applies to you.
