A Therapy For Pain Lyrics

I welcome death with open arms
Her soft breath and simple charm
Wandering through memories
Takes my hand for me to see

Tried so hard
Tried so hard

Echoes of innocent
Are my thoughts into dissent

Tried so hard
Tried so hard
Tried so hard
Tried so hard

When we finally reach the end
She lets go of my hand
Waking into realms of light
There will be no death tonight

Tried so hard
Tried so hard
Tried so hard
Tried so hard

A lady being a metaphor for death. When you think of Death as a character, its the grim reaper with the hood and scythe. We can see death as the calm and beautifully simple way to end pain under the light of this song. I get the essence that he is romanticized to ending his pain by being taken away by "Lady death" : My main belief is that the narrator is contemplating suicide, and is finding comfort in death by the traits she is showing as opposed to that fucking frightning grim reaper. The metaphor that death is a lady attributes a maternal meaning also. A feeling that your gonna be looked after no matter what, maybe.

I think of Lady death here as a character that visits us when were thinking, or unconscious.

At the end, Lady death has either 1: bought the narrator to his senses by showing that finding comfort in death is the same as finding it in life, except that you get to live. Making the narrator think it over, death has taken him on a trip through memories to help talk him out of it... or 2: left the narrator as he is having his pain relieved ie by way of surgery perhaps. He is thinking about the life he has lived, and how he has to overcome the pain to live another day. (I saw he cause Burton C Bell does have quite the dude voice.) By letting go of his hand, perhaps he hasnt sustained enough injury to be dead, or the mental capacity hes exhibited in handling pain has helped him pull through.

Love this song though. I think of it as the coming round from thoughts of suicide. I feel the song is very uplifting.

It's about dying, or at least wanting to die and welcoming the figure of death in. Not knowing that it was not death at all, but an angel come to pull him from his place of woe, and save him from his misery.

Considering Demanufacture is a concept album about a struggle between man and machine (along with "Obsolete" and "Digimortal"), I really doubt this song anything to do with a failed relationship.

This whole album tells a story, this song being the final chapter. Kinda reminds me of A Christmas Carol... but less friendly...

I think this song is about a near death experience/dying and moving on.

You're about to die, this song is about your thoughts when faced with dying. "Tried so hard" could refer to trying to keep clinging onto life, or trying to live a good life or a life that you enjoyed (which I think). The end verse can be interpreted two ways in my opinion. The bright light could refer to someone guiding you to the other end, finally passing on and moving onto another life, or waking up from your near death experience, but having a close brush with death.

The lyrics fit both IMO, I don't think it fits suicide, its embracing the act of dying naturally, not trying to commit suicide to die.

i'm not religious whatsoever. but, i really believe this songs about a guardian - intervening on someones suicidal plight. another idea is that it is about someone else doing what the guardian is to do in this case: intervention. i dont know where you get its a break-up song. The "she" portion is likely the guardian. otherwise how can a girlfriend attribute the realms of light and other metaphysical hints in the song.

i take back what i posted before. fuck guardians and angels and shits. its about your concious and the dilemma of appeal of going through you while contemplating self-destruction. but, then realizing its the world thats fucked up and not you so why suffer anymore.

perhaps its about a man who killed his wife and now himself due to thier relationship as other have said? "Echoes of innocence" and "She lets go of my hand" a woman has died but not by choice.

I think this song is about suicide. I don't think the reference to "her" means anything in particular honestly. I think it's just kind of a metaphor for the experience of thinking about your past and being stuck in that state of black nothingness that compels you to welcome death.

"Tried so hard" is basically the experience as whole; as in "Tried so hard to die but I can't go through with it (suicide)" -- Not killing yourself always feels like a triumph or victory over the darkness. I think that's ultimately what the song is about.
