I always looked at this song as a way of expressing anger. It does hint that he wants to commit suicide, but I also infer that he wants to let it be known and leave a mass destruction behind.
"I'm talking all you down with me Explosives duct taped to my spine" and "Did it bring you so down that you thought you lost your mind ? Do you ever want to lead a long trail of destruction"
Then again he also says: "Do you ever build up all the small things in your head To make one problem that adds up to nothing"
which could mean hes not actually going to do anything, he was just pissed and realized he was just creating more problems. I found the most meaning behind this song during 9-11. That's when it struck me. Either way, this song fucking kicks ass.
To me, this song more represents just the feeling of having so much shit going on in your life, and you'll just do anything to get rid of them, even if it means losing your reputation or whatever it is that keeps you from saying what you need to say.
I really like this song but I don't think the lyrics are as literal as people are saying. I think the suicide bomber thing is more a metaphor for taking people down with him.
It doesn't really explain the reasons for the situation but I can imagine that he has been betrayed by a group of friends and is now in trouble because of it, so he's basically saying "well im in trouble now but i'll take you lot down with me, all the good times we had mean nothing now".
But I dont think its actually got anything to do with hime feeling suicidal.
That is different. the "brat in that song was refering to a "brat" in his life. This song is about suicide and it is obvious that he wrote this song about himself. I know I have thought of commiting suicide. This was probably one of the first real songs I have ever understood and it was haunting when i figured out what it was about.
I suspect BJ has better things to do than write suicidal songs for other people.
The week Columbine happened, I couldn't get this song out of my head.
I think this song is about being feeling really suicidally depressed, believing it's your friends' fault for all your problems and just wanting to kill yourself and take them all with you because of it. Pretty disturbing song actually, considering it's about something so dark but actually kinda has a bit of a happy sound to it (IMO).
I can't believe nobody has commented on this song. Maybe it's because Green Day's other work off Dookie overshadow it. To think that Billie-Joe has thought about suicide, seriously or not, disturbs me deeply.
(So close your eyes and kiss yourself goodbye) (Loniliness still conforts me) (My anger dwells inside of me) Typical of BJ's simple but striking lyrics.
I agree this song rocks & it is scary but maybee he wasnt talking about a personal feeling maybee he was trying to get inside other peoples heads who do those kinds of things?
yeah u guys...dont take these lyrics seriously...i mean he needs something to write a song about, but it doesnt necessarily have 2 b a personal thought or emotion he has...i mean do u think he was singing about himself in the song "brat"(off of insomniac)? i think not
