I'm not crazy like my brother
But it's the way that I choose
I don't hang around with a six pence
When I got everything to lose
Would you bring me my money
And take from me all that I was worth
'Cause I wasn't worth nothing
And I wasn't yours
Oh don't you be a passerby
Oh won't you sit down
And stay a while
'Cause it's been too long since you been around
Sold out man from across the way
He thought he heard what he heard you say
Hey now man your watch it shines
For the bid of a moment yields him 40 times
Oh don't you be a passerby
Oh won't you sit down
And stay a while
Don't you be a passerby
Oh don't won't you sit down
And stay a while...
'Cause it's been too long since you been around
Woman and little child
don't you be a passerby
But it's the way that I choose
I don't hang around with a six pence
When I got everything to lose
And take from me all that I was worth
'Cause I wasn't worth nothing
And I wasn't yours
Oh won't you sit down
And stay a while
'Cause it's been too long since you been around
He thought he heard what he heard you say
Hey now man your watch it shines
For the bid of a moment yields him 40 times
Oh won't you sit down
And stay a while
Oh don't won't you sit down
And stay a while...
'Cause it's been too long since you been around
don't you be a passerby

The first time i heard this song was at their concert last november (the concert's how i really got into them) and it was the one that really stuck in my mind. I think its talking about how people move too quickly though life, friendships and relationships and that they should stick around and be something more than just a "passerby" to people.
Peace out
This really is a great Dispatch song. It doesn't really get you out of your seat, but it is deep to me. I think the message he is trying to send is that I need someone. He is tired of his wealthy life. "Would you bring me my money And take from me all that I was worth" Money can't by happiness. He wants you to come to him and see the real person inside. Well, that's how it is to me. I feel like this in my life. Just I ain't rich. I need somebody to sit down and look at the real me. Thanks again, Dispatch. :)
hey yall. to tell ya the truth i didnt like this song when i heard it the first couple of times i heard it. but now its one of my favorite 'spatch songs. it makes me calm if im havin a bad day as stupid as that may sound. just thought id share that. zach
I might be going to far out by reaching the meaning for this one, but here it goes. In the beggining he's talking about how he doesn't want to be like his brother. And saying how his brother is crazy. Then the song goes to the chorus where they sing (Oh don't you be a passerby Oh won't you sit down And stay a while ) I think there singing about drugs. He doesn't want you to end up like his crazy brother. And he wants you not to be a passerby and "Stay for awhile" tell me what you think
Okay, sorry Erick, but i dont agree with you. I was at the concert in Central Park where his brother actually was, and it defintiely didn't seem like they had problems. I agree with Big Eyed Phish
I think that the majority of this song is sung in the first person point of view of a homeless man who is begging the bystanders to stay with him for a little while. The 4th verse is saying that time may pass be shortly for us who live in a priveledged life- illustrated by the man's shiny gold watch, but for those who have no luxuries or even the bare essentials everyday of constant struggle seems 40 times longer than the days that we live. Next time you are in the city for a concert and you see that homeless man or woman- dont be a passerby. Personally, I wont hang around with a sixpence (small amount of money) because I have everything to lose too- it could have been me on the streets at night. DONT BE A PASSERBY
what difference does that make? i'm sure they'll still think it's a good song, even if it is a cover.
when i first heard this song, i really wasn't too fond of it, but the more i listened to it, the more i liked it, and it would always just make me feel better if i was havin a bad day, and i agree with bigeyedphish
definitely not a cover. and i dont think theres such a thing as a "bandwagon dispatch fan" im as big a dispatch fan as youll meet, and im not gonna look down on people just because theyve heard only one song, i just feel bad for the people who havent heard any.
