I've always thought that it was about Moses and the Jews journey through the desert. Forsaken by the Northern star.

you know what? i think your right, Varulf. note also that the lyric "Starforsaken" is in the song "Lunar Strain" i just noticed that, and i had to say it somewhere. it's definately an epic journey...whether moses & jews, or just some person trying to cross the dessert, and it really sucking for them

I don't really see how this song is about a journey, interesting though it sounds. I'd prefer to think it's a song which is basically about a guy being tortured in the desert by some divine powers.
I think bukey is right, I've must have been on crack, because that's the lamest song interpretation ever. I don't know what I was thinking, I must have hit my head when I wrote that or something.
