I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. “I overthink and have trouble sleepin’ / All purpose gone and don’t have a reason / And there’s no doctor to stop this bleedin’ / So I left home and jumped in the deep end,” Ed Sheeran sings in verse one. He continues by adding that this person is feeling the weight of having disappointed his father and doesn’t have any friends to rely on in this difficult moment. Not a B.S. fan (her voice never really did it for me and her politics disgust me), but this is a perfect song when on is anticipating a blind date. Lord, they are nerve-racking. The worst one I ever went on was with a rich guy who owned a sports car. It was to be a double date (my friends...a married couple...had set it up). The guy arrived and decided he'd go out with me (how charitable), but that I could not sit in his car. He had just had it detailed with the leather seats cleaned and NOBODY was to sit in his car. We took separate cars! He was an arrogant ass at dinner and I couldn't escape fast enough. He, too, did not care for me as he was used to dating beautiful model types (who OBVIOUSLY liked him for his $$$$ cause he was short personality:). No blind date is fun...if and until the person appears and your friends didn't do too shabby a job :)
