Killer riff! This song means trying to leave something you love, but in the end you realize you love it too much to leave.

I always assumed that this (like "Machine Gun") were pretty much Jimi's only major Vietnam songs.

I agree with oceansize86, and the part with ". . . . . ." is "The wind and lightning took me by surprise", since I couldn't find away to edit these lyrics myself.
