Third Stone From The Sun Lyrics

Star fleet to scout ship, please give your position. Over.
I'm in orbit around the third planet from the star called
the sun. Over.
You mean its the Earth? Over.
Positive. It is known to have some form of intelligent species. Over.
I think we should take a look.
{intro slowwed down talking ends}
Strange beautiful grass of green,
with your majestic silver seas
Your mysterious mountains I wish to see closer
May I land my kinky machine?
{start slowwed down}
Strange beautiful, grass of green
with your majestic silver seas
Your mysterious mountains I wish to see closer
May I land my kinky machine?
{end slowwed down}
Although your world wonders me,
with your majestic and superior cackling hen
Your people I do not understand,
so to you I shall put an end
And you'll
never hear
surf music again
Secret
Oh, secret
Oh
Shhh

Jimi wrote this ssong about a painting he made in pre school. The painting included space and planets. That childhood drawing inspired this song. He wanted to re paint the picture with music.

The line about never hearing surf music again was actually a dedication to surf guitar king Dick Dale, who was dying of cancer (but didn't die and later covered the song , dedicating it to Jimi).

quote from Dale - "Jimi dedicated this song to me when I was sying of cancer. That's where the quote 'You'll never hear surf music again' comes from. For a while, Hendrix was backing up Little Richard in a bar in Padasena. He came to my live shows. Listen to his guitar slides; he said he patterned his style after me, after watching me blow up amplifiers."

@SquishyMon I've actually heard that one before too, about it being dedicated to Dick Dale.

@SquishyMon you are right on! I never heard that, but I believe it. You can hear surf music inside the song! That makes this song even greater knowing his intent was to pay homage to Dick Dale! The song I think it is "Apache".

err. try going a little deeper armor fury, i meawn you are on the right track, it is about aliens landing on earth but they dont like/understand how people act "Your people I do not understand, so to you I shall put an end " so they are going to blow up the world, or just kill all humans "And you'll never hear surf music again"

almost like judgement day - the movie

"I'm in orbit around the third planet..." = Jimi is high above it all...observing the world and its ways as an outsider...not aliens, he's talking about himself. He's below a "higher power", the "mothership". He's imagining putting the world to an end? Or maybe that's what he imagines aliens would.

I think it's supposed to be "may you never hear surf music again"...

"although your world wonders me, with your majestic and superior cackling hen" = aliens admire the hen..? wtf? Maybe it means they have no natural resources or something...no means of getting food? Or maybe it's just too much LSD...

"your people I do not understand, so to you I shall put an end..." = the way you behave makes no sense, you're crazy bastards, die!!

"May you never hear...surf music..again...." = Jimi Hendrix was completely opposite to Surf Music in sound, and also not a traditionalist in philosophy, so I think he thought this was funny. I sure do. =)

There are two origins of this song. Chas Chandler (Jimi's manager) says Jimi wrote this after he was introduced to Science Fiction of Issac Asimov by Chandler.

Another story says that this song is Jimi's interpretation of an (believe it or not) old Daffy Duck cartoon. There was a space duck episode once that the song supposedly follows closely to.

Your mysterious mountains I wish to see closely, Where I lay my pinky machine...

Who contributed these lyrics? Get 'em right, for fucks sake! What did Jimi play? The guitar. Which could also be referred to as a PINKY MACHINE. Geddit? Even as an alien, he still had a guitar in his hands.....
