The Rebels Lyrics

Seems like yesterday we were 16
We were the rebels of the rebel scene
We wore Doc Martens in the sun
Drinking vintage cider having fun
Drinking vintage cider having fun.

It wasn't often that we fought at all
It wasn't often.

We wore Doc Martens in the sun
Paint our toenails black and let our hair grow
What I am now is what I was then
I am not more acceptable than then
I an not more acceptable than then.

It wasn't often that we fought at all
It wasn't often

Seems like yesterday we were 16
We were the rebels of the rebel scene.

One of the Cranberries' favorite songs to play, they wrote this about the innocence of youth and the desire to reclaim it.

I think @calysto really captures the spirit of the song. Doc Martens were quite popular when I was growing up, and I can really picture scenes in my youth of people that were like what they describe in the song. The whole musical undertone of the song just perfectly captures that emotion of trying to recapture your youth / innocence.

You can hear her sigh at the end of the song. You definitely know that this was written from the heart for someone special that she remembers from her youth; a childhood friend, lover, etc… A great song about capturing innocence and no worries in the world. Growing up in the 1990's; when DOC's were better back then.
