Hold On My Heart Lyrics
Hold on my heart
just hold on to that feeling
we both know we've been here before
we both know what can happen
Hold on my heart
cos I'm looking over your shoulder
ooh please don't rush in this time
don't show her how you feel
Hold on my heart
throw me a lifeline
I'll keep a place for you
somewhere deep inside
So hold on my heart
please tell her to be patient
cos there has never been a time
that I wanted something more
If I can recall this feeling
and I know there's a chance
oh I will be there
yes I will be there
be there for you
whenever you want me to
whenever you call oh I will be there
Yes I will be there
Hold on my heart
don't let her see you crying
no matter where I go
she'll always be with me
So hold on my heart
just hold on to that feeling
we both know we've been here before
we both know what can happen
So hold on my heart...
just hold on to that feeling
we both know we've been here before
we both know what can happen
cos I'm looking over your shoulder
ooh please don't rush in this time
don't show her how you feel
throw me a lifeline
I'll keep a place for you
somewhere deep inside
please tell her to be patient
cos there has never been a time
that I wanted something more
and I know there's a chance
oh I will be there
yes I will be there
be there for you
whenever you want me to
whenever you call oh I will be there
Yes I will be there
don't let her see you crying
no matter where I go
she'll always be with me
just hold on to that feeling
we both know we've been here before
we both know what can happen
So hold on my heart...

The song is an affirmation to himself. He's fearing to let go and show all his vulnerabilities with his lover. He's very in love and last time he felt this way he was hurt or disappointed. He hopes she understands.
This is a beautiful, mellow and peaceful song. Fans of Phil Collins or Genesis's softer music should like this.
Thanks! I love this song...

Simple song about the fear of taking the next step in a relationship, likely related to previous experiences of rejection and depression.
I've heard this song a couple of times before but never really listened closely to the lyrics until today, it really reminds me of a relationship I had with a girl I met last July. We hit it off right away after we first met and really liked each other but thing is, she's Brazilian and was to be going back to Brazil only 3 weeks after we first met. She did plan on returning in November and we hoped to pick up the relationship where it left off and go from there, hopefully start dating. Problem is, she was deported back to Brazil immediately and a 5 year suspension put on her visa. We were both devastated, truly heartbroken. We tried to get her visa reinstated but it cost too much $$. We also tried to get together in another country but I'm disabled, hard for me to travel. As I was trying to plan our trip to meet somewhere, She started feeling lonely. She would tell me she couldn't wait much longer and, well, eventually she found another guy. So I think of her as I hear this song. She told me I'd always be in her heart and I said the same of her. I think of this song in a literal sense also because for Christmas, I bought her a necklace which had a cross with a heart around it. (Missing you Isa)
@Quadzilla So saddening.

great song, one of my favorites from the hits album
Going through this feeling, again as we speak.. What a powerful, moving song.
Only one comment? It's a good song. Stoolhardy nailed the meaning, though..
