Bring Your Daughter... to the Slaughter Lyrics
honey its getting close to midnight
and all the myths are in town
true love and lipstick on your linen
bite the pillow make no sound
if there's some living to be done
before your life becomes your tomb
you'd better know that i'm the one
so unchain your back door invite me around
honey its getting close to daybreadk
the sun is creeping in the sky
no patent remedies for heartache
just empty words and humble pie
so get down on your kneees honey
assume an attitude
you just pray that i'll be waiting
cos you know i'm coming soon
so pick up your foolish pride,no going back
no where,no way,no place to hide
bring your daughter, bring your daughter to the slaughter
let her go,let her go,let her go
and all the myths are in town
true love and lipstick on your linen
bite the pillow make no sound
if there's some living to be done
before your life becomes your tomb
you'd better know that i'm the one
so unchain your back door invite me around
the sun is creeping in the sky
no patent remedies for heartache
just empty words and humble pie
assume an attitude
you just pray that i'll be waiting
cos you know i'm coming soon
no where,no way,no place to hide
let her go,let her go,let her go

I think this song is actually about groupies. Anybody who's been to a Maiden show knows the crowds can get pretty physical. Basically I think it's about a girl going to a Maiden show as a way of rebellion. If I'm not mistaken, in 1990 the Riot Grrl movement of all girl rock bands was starting to take off. Maybe this could be a reference to that as well? In fact, there was a Riot Grrl band, The Gits, that referenced Iron Maiden in one of their songs, Slaughter of Bruce. Basically they wrote the song from Bruce's point of view when he was leaving Iron Maiden in 1993.
fekkin great tune. great band. Up The Irons!
I think that the song is about the ancient Greek Agamemnon, who had to sacrifice his daughter, Iphinginia, to get a favourable wind so he could sail his army to Troy. His daughter was saved at the last minure by Athena with a stag in her place, but that didn't stop Agamemnon's wife, Clytemnestra, from killing him when he got back from Troy. Typical, survives 10 years war, and then gets killed by his own wife. I think this song actually was Christmas number 1, if you look on the inside of one of the covers of one of the albums, it say got to number one before Christmas and stayed there for 2 weeks, or something. But that muight just be my imagination.
The only people who would put this up for worst song of the yar would be morons who are trying to get metal out of the charts. Oh, and it definately says on the inside of the No Prayer for the Dying sleeve that this got to number 1 on December 24th and stayed there for 2 weeks. That makes it Christmas number 1.
this song is badass. fuck what other people thinks.
this song went to number one as (sum would will say) a result of one of the pioneering "fixing" of a record makin it a hit, releasing it a couple weeks after christmas or sumthing where not many records are released hell it would of gone no 1. any way!!!! LET HER GO
lol the videos great too b/w B-movie horror lol tis kool
Funny how this is not a very popular Maiden song, yet it's one of if not the only to go the #1 on the charts (England chats, mind you). It's also on what many Maiden fans consider the weakest Bruce album, yet that one debuted rather high in england as well. Great song, though.
@EvilLawyer Well, a song that would get mainstream success is often not the one the fans like. It mainly got to #1 because they released it at a time of year not many singles were released, and it's pretty AC/DCish but not very Iron Maidenish.

As far as I understand, this song (written for A Nightmare on Elm Street: The Dream Child) was Bruce Dickinson's take on what the Nightmare movies were really about - adolescent fear of period pains. Seems strange, I know...
Didn't this song win a razzie for worst song of the year. I think I read that somewhere, not sure why, cause it's pretty cool song.
