Glass Sandwich Lyrics
He stood in linewith the rest,
and waited for his chance
to take his place behind the glass,
and watch the ladies dance.
It's the nature of things.
He stepped into the darkened space,
the air was thick and warm.
He drops the coins in one by one.
The scene unfolds before him.
He stands looking eye to thigh,
as she looks down from above,
only to be recognized
as his former love.
It's the nature of things.
and waited for his chance
to take his place behind the glass,
and watch the ladies dance.
the air was thick and warm.
He drops the coins in one by one.
The scene unfolds before him.
as she looks down from above,
only to be recognized
as his former love.

Yeah, I think everyone else pretty much has this covered. However, in case anyone didn't get the reason for the song title: The guy and his ex are separated by a pane of glass, so it's a "glass sandwich" so to speak.
In certain... "gentlemen's clubs" they have these booths where you go in, and you put in your money, and the shutter thing on the window will open, and you have your show.
This is pretty much just a funny story of total irony. THe guy goes in for a little show, and he pops in his money, only to see the girl he had dated before was now stripping for a living.
I think it's a bit deeper than that, y'allses. When he's saying "It's the nature of things," he saying what goes around comes around. Like maybe he broke up with her cause he loved some one else, or she broke up with him cause he was a cheater, and he went to a porno palace like he does every day, and his ex-girlfriend is the new skank.
Oh the irony! It beleive it means that the nature of things is for majorly fucked up things to happen in your life.
sounds like he puts some change in a nickelodeon...thats playing porn?
and its his ex-girlfriend it sounds like?
I think this may (or may not) be a true story of les's past. In "De Anza Jig" and "Hats off," he speaks of one of his early girlfriends who happened to lose her virginity to him.
In de anza, "I remember the day that she gave me her virginity, and then she gave it ti everyone in our vicinity."
and in hats off, "At seventeen, I'd get naked with a beauty queen At the Hot Tub Zone At nineteen, she was livin' hard and snortin' drugs That decayed her bones"
It is possible that he is speaking of Jenny, who after she dated les, became a total whore.
Definately worth asking les.
There's a scene in the Crow 2 that has Iggy Pop's character going into a booth like the one described in this song. Just for referance ;)
I was at the Wells Auto Museum in Maine, and they had Nickelodeons With porno in them. You drop in a few dimes and there's a bucnh of naked chics dancing or something. Yeah that's what the song reminds me of.
Yah, the guy steps into a private protection dance booth (glass wall that seperates the dancer from the room where the customer jacks it) and the stage is elavated above him as he sits, "eye to thigh as she looks down from above" and sure enough its his former girl friend.
I think it's more specifically about happiness coming and going over time, though otherwise I agree.
