Follow You Follow Me Lyrics
Stay with me,
My love I hope you'll always be
Right here by my side if ever I need you
Oh my love
In your arms,
I feel so safe and so secure
Everyday is such a perfect day to spend
Alone with you
I will follow you will you follow me
All the days and nights that we know will be
I will stay with you will you stay with me
Just one single tear in each passing year
With the dark,
Oh I see so very clearly now
All my fears are drifting by me so slowly now
Fading away
I can say
The night is long but you are here
Close at hand, oh I'm better for the smile you give
And while I live
I will follow you will you follow me
All the days and nights that we know will be
I will stay with you will you stay with me
Just one single tear in each passing year there will be
I will follow you will you follow me
All the days and nights that we know will be
I will stay with you will you stay with me
Just one single tear in each passing year...
My love I hope you'll always be
Right here by my side if ever I need you
Oh my love
I feel so safe and so secure
Everyday is such a perfect day to spend
Alone with you
All the days and nights that we know will be
I will stay with you will you stay with me
Just one single tear in each passing year
Oh I see so very clearly now
All my fears are drifting by me so slowly now
Fading away

All the days and nights that we know will be
I will stay with you will you stay with me
Just one single tear in each passing year...

Awesome song; basically saying how all the bad things in your life are finally put behind you when find someome you love.
The best love song ever. Basically a song about both partners being on equal footing, by literally following each other, meaning that cancels and they are left side by side. Beautiful song and beautiful lyrics.
Best Genesis pop song in my opinion.
in response to parberoo:
Rutherford is the lyricist, and I actually think the lyrics are blatantly Rutherford's. If you look at Collins' lyrical contributions in the late '70s and the '80s, he penned songs about problematic relationships, not about love ("Misunderstanding," "That's All") or not about relationships at all ("Scenes from a Night's Dream," "Illegal Alien"). Rutherford had already written "Your Own Special Way" on W&W. I think "Follow You Follow Me" is is a much better song, but it comes as no surprise that the lyrics are by the same person.
Beautiful song... always love to hear a good clean tune about being with the one you love forever.
What does "Just one single tear in each passing year" mean?
@Scott216 Most of these comments are from years ago, but yours is relatively recent. So maybe you’ll actually see this.

I just recently rediscovered this tune after nearly thirty years and had forgotten how lovely it is.

I always interpreted that line as a nod to the fact that there will always be rough moments, even in a devoted and caring relationship. It says, “but only rarely, just a single tear,” in each year. A passing cloud on an otherwise unblemished day.

@Scott216 I think it refers to his yearning or past yearning of one person who can share the tender moments on a consistent, yearly basis and not a fly by night thing

this is the song that moved genesis from obscure progrock band geeky men liked into bein a household name and gettin women interested in them (apparently). it was part of a longer song which ultimately just lent itself to bein a 3 minute one. as such it was easily stuck on the radio where it took off. blatantly one of phils. the other two were still too shy to say things like 'i love you' at this point in time (78) altho' i spose banks had almost managed it in afterglow. bless him.
if you want to hear something awesome -- listen to Red House Painters cover this song.
One reason why I listen to Genesis is because it strikes a nerve inside of me. Not in a bad way, it just reminds me of my childhood. Ya know, a time when I felt so close to my family (aunts, uncles, cousins, grandma.. etc). But thats all gone. My uncle is off pissing his life away, I miss my grandmother and rarely get to see her. And my cousins/aunt, well, the distance is great and I fear that age has ripped a hole through what we had. :-\ So for me, this is a great song to reflect back on because it brings back a ton of damn good memories that have since been shredded up and burned by time. :-\ I'd give anything to relive it again.
