Don't You (Forget About Me) Lyrics

Hey, hey, hey ,hey
Ohhh...

Won't you come see about me?
I'll be alone, dancing you know it baby

Tell me your troubles and doubts
Giving me everything inside and out and
Love's strange so real in the dark
Think of the tender things that we were working on

Slow change may pull us apart
When the light gets into your heart, baby

Don't You Forget About Me
Don't Don't Don't Don't
Don't You Forget About Me

Will you stand above me?
Look my way, never love me
Rain keeps falling, rain keeps falling
Down, down, down

Will you recognise me?
Call my name or walk on by
Rain keeps falling, rain keeps falling
Down, down, down, down

Hey, hey, hey, hey
Ohhhh.....

Don't you try to pretend
It's my feeling we'll win in the end
I won't harm you or touch your defenses
Vanity and security

Don't you forget about me
I'll be alone, dancing you know it baby
Going to take you apart
I'll put us back together at heart, baby

Don't You Forget About Me
Don't Don't Don't Don't
Don't You Forget About Me

As you walk on by
Will you call my name?
As you walk on by
Will you call my name?
When you walk away

Or will you walk away?
Will you walk on by?
Come on - call my name
Will you all my name?

I say :
La la la...

I didn't know that this song was written for the movie but that makes perfect sense. It relates perfectly to what brian said. "Will you call my name, or just walk on by?" Brian talked about how he considered them as friends after that day and asked when they were back at school with all their friends from different cliques would they say hi? or just ignore each other? And besides that this song fit the movie. especially in the end when the principle is reading Brian's note. Back then, movies had a point.

This song express love and the lack of it because of rigid social conventions.

I remember all the people I went to school with for many years and learned to know at parties/clubs etc. Today it is impossible to greet any of them when you suddenly meet them at the street years later.

We all just walk on by.

I rejoice at these really obnoxious moments, because then I know that love is the greatest thing and what most of us all seek to find in our life. Love.

My Opinion

@RonAnd "This song express love and the lack of it because of rigid social conventions." it does. that's such the perfect summing up.

This is my favorite 80s song. Simply beautiful and amazing.

I think that the song is actually very hopeful. Yes,the couple broke up,but he has hope for them and thus,he's happy. Which explains the LA LA LA at the end. He's singing because he's happy.

God this song is mindblowingly awesome.

This is my favorite 80's song ever.

Just like how The Breakfast Club is my favorite 80's movie

Mmm...great combination =]

So fitting to the Futurama episode it was on.

Especially suiting because Bender was named after Judd Nelson's character from the Breakfast Club, John Bender.

ok i am i the only simple minds fan in this world? This song is defenitely not a one hit wonder. Simple minds is one of my top 5 favorite bands and all their albums are great and so are all their songs. What everyone doesn't seem to understand is that this song is one of their worst songs, im not saying its bad but simple minds released great songs in the late 80's, 90's and a couple years ago that no one even knows about that are 10 times better than this song but their songs didn't get much publicity cause people thought they vanished after don't you forget about me.

-people need to find their own music love and stop listening to that one song that everyone else loves. i have about 150 simple minds songs, if u agree with me i can lead u into the great path of simple minds fans. email me at crankles6392@msn.com if you want to know some more simple minds

btw this song is great and breakfast club is a classic movie

I realize this comment is almost four years old, but I can't agree with you more. Sure, this is a good song, but there are sooooo many better Simple Minds songs. Given the choice between this song or something like All the Things She Said or Speed Your Love to Me or even something way less obvious like In Every Heaven, I'd pick anything but Don't You Forget About Me.

@musiclvr36 very true

Probably one of the best songs of the 1980's. It still hits home two decades after the fact. It always reminds me of Judd Nelson throwing his fist in the air as he walked toward the camera at the end of the film. Fade to darkness as this song revs up, talk about a classic finish.

Tinderbox - In this case Simple Minds were approached to record the song. Upon seeing it, Jim Kerr was skeptical as it wasn't their type of music. However, more than anything he and the other members wanted to break into the American market. The American market had always been the ultimate goal for them...so they recorded it. It worked but I don't think Jim Kerr ever felt for that song like he did for all the ones he wrote himself.

Anyway, that's what I got from reading 1001 articles on Simple Minds in my younger years. I was a huge fan.
