I love that this was the official song for the 30th anniversary of Star Trek.
Only in Germany, not worldwide, but still…
Just think of how much better things would have been if they'd told Kirk that his five-year mission was "to explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations, to boldly find another happy place".
There was a hilarious interview that went something like this—all said completely deadpan, with a straight face:
Q: Do you realize that million miles won't even get you to Mars?
A: Well, Oliver did write a billion, but after I accidentally recorded "million", he said it sounded better.
Q: But a billion miles still only gets you to Saturn. The nearest stars are 20 trillion miles away. Floating through the galaxy, you're talking about quadrillions of miles at least.
A: But how far is it to another happy place?
Q: According to MapQuest, you must go to at least Ontario, Canada, and it cannot give directions under the ocean.
A: Well, that's less than a million miles, right?
