Love, loyalty, friendship, caring, between souls, being unconditional, enduring. Spot on campbc, legendary. First struck by this song 1973 and learnt on guitar, today 52 years later heard it on radio paradise - new perspective, same feeling :-)

This song is allegedly about a journalist (I can't mention names) who John was great friends with. The pair apparently were in a bar one night when John struck a man who had been sleeping with John's wife and the journalist had to pull John off of the man and diffuse the situation. So the song is essentialy about good friendships and knowing where the line is in terms of keeping your cool etc. I love the song!
Everyone who praises the song is dead right. And if you're as lucky as me, who it was for also matters. It was for a Greek waiter in a restaurant above the legendary Les Cousins folk club in Soho, and I saw John dedicate it and sing it to him in the club. Absolute magic.

It clearly matters not a shite what the song was originally about. It is a beautiful song that speaks to me of loyalty, love and passionate spirit. It has been a special song for me for many years and I have my own personal and magical moments born of this piece of art.
