I'm Sticking with You Lyrics
I'm sticking with you
'Cos I'm made out of glue
Anything that you might do
I'm gonna do too
You held up a stagecoach in the rain
And I'm doing the same
So you're hanging from a tree
And I made believe it was me
I'm sticking with you
'Cos I'm made out of glue
Anything that you might do
I'm gonna do too
There're people going into the stratosphere
Soldiers fighting with the Cong
But with you by my side I can do anything
When we swing, babe, we hang past right and wrong
I'll do anything for you
Anything you want me too
I'll do anything for you
Oohoh I'm sticking with you
Oohoh I'm sticking with you
Oohoh I'm sticking with you
'Cos I'm made out of glue
Anything that you might do
I'm gonna do too
And I'm doing the same
So you're hanging from a tree
And I made believe it was me
'Cos I'm made out of glue
Anything that you might do
I'm gonna do too
Soldiers fighting with the Cong
But with you by my side I can do anything
When we swing, babe, we hang past right and wrong
Anything you want me too
I'll do anything for you
Oohoh I'm sticking with you
Oohoh I'm sticking with you
Oohoh I'm sticking with you

i read somewhere that when this song came out it was so popular and sweet that even little kids were singing it in the playground cos its like a nursery rhyme. What i dont get is you people who complain about Moe not being a good singer - she doesnt have to be, it just works so well in the song! think about it - wouldnt all the charm and velvety-undergroundness be ruined if you got, like, this amazingly talented singer instead! yes!!!!you people...grrr....
basically...i'm walking down the aisle to the last minute of this song
If you listen to that "saw you hanging from a tree" verse it's a bit sick. She's seeing him as a highwayman who gets hanged & is she sticking with him & being hanged on the next gallows? No, she's making believe, cos she's not as daft as all that! I'm with the folks who like Moe's singing. It's an untrained, slightly uncertain voice & it fits this song.
mo tucker doesn't sound soo bad, her flat and innocent delivery is mad funny and compliment's lou reed pretty well. this is an excellent song, it really drives home the range and ability of lou reed's songwriting.. dirgy nightmare trip romps or sweet melodic little ballads, he pwn3d nonstop
and isn't it "saw you hanging from a tree"???
i think this song could be about drug use 'sticking' can mean shooting up and holding up a stage coach could represent crimes someone commits to feed there addiction, hanging from a tree could be suicide, a metaphor for being conscious of your own demise "when we swing we hang past right and wrong" could mean that with that feeling of being 'close to death' you can kind of break the boundaries or go beyond trivial things like popular opinion thus not be affected by things happening around you like "soldiers fighting with the Cong". it is also common for people to get into drugs through peer pressure "I'll do anything for you, anything you want me to"
Mo's childlike singing goes perfectly with the irony of the song. Here is parable about how our culture glorifies crime and violence in a childrens' ditty. The references to the conflict over vietnam war and the nationalism of the moon landing set the historical period and counterculture mood. [btw the line here is quoted incorrectly. should read "moon people go into the stratosphere"] I love it.
The lyrics here in the first verse are incorrect! should be: Saw you hangin from a tree And I made believe it was me
that is, following the stagecoach robbery, the "you" was caught and hanged from a tree. "you" are dead.
i also like denihilism's interpretation re heroin addiction.
Mo also sang After Hours, at least it appears on a live set recorded in Paris in the 'Nineties.
Both songs are 'uncomfortable' for people used to the vocal abilities of the other band members, but they have a certain charm.
Mo Tucker, you make me smile. Who needs a highet?
gotta go with greyshoes - mo makes me smile - this song, and after hours - are both so sweet and simple. childlike. yeah.
