Captain (Busted Stuff version)

This is a great song. It's not the best on "Busted Stuff", but it's certainly a great song. I don't know what it means though, somebody help me out.

This song's not exactly a love song, more of a lust. I see he's makin his own decisions w/ the 'captin' symbol, so maybe he's going into a relationship knowing it's based on something other than love. He longs for her, and she seems to pity him, so she stays with him, but it's like he'll take her any way he can because she has enchanted him.

This song makes me think of making love all night, uninhibited, passionately, with soem idea that it might be gone tomorrow. That kind of love making has some kind of love persona, but it doesn't always have to be mutual. The mutany he refer's to is the breaking down of the idea he can just walk away, like when you only have lust for a person. Pity can also be for a person who blindly falls into it. I agree that he makes references to not caring if she feels the same, he wants her anyway. This is one of my favorite songs on BS, I can understand the way people can create strong emotions and ties from an act so intense, just the thougth of having that sexual experience with someone, I couldn't imagine NOT having extreme feelings of love!

actually i think if you put aside all the sexual notation, you could think that he is writing this about himself and his band, because they went through a time during the writing of everyday where i think there was a threat of mutiny...just my thoughts

Sevenfooter50, I'm not sure I understand what you mean, but I can sorta tell what you are talking about. I would really like if you could elaborate more on that idea. and HaikuWarriors41, haha, it could definately be seen as a porn song. He definately seems infatuated with someone.. sometimes its so hard to figure out whats going on in that man's beautiful mind.. Beautiful song.

i know the song is really about this but does anyone else besides me see some connections to the odyssey here?? like him saying "promise that you'll stay with me" and "how i long for like crazy." anyone that has read the whole thing will no what im talkin about, and the stuff about a mutiny and curious hands and fingertips, which just reminds me of times when odysseus crew tries to overthrow him...o well, maybe im the only one that sees this...?

this is a transformation between asking someone to stay temporarily and forever. daves inviting God to stay from a short period to staying permenantly. from dave being the captain of his ship to being the passenger.

This is about a fantasy. The fantasy is the ship. When he closes his eyes he is the Captain. Day after day he "longs" for this girl he can't have...only in his fantasies...he's literally got "all night" to fantasize. "The way your smile lights up under your eyes"...he ADORES her from far away quietly...the mutiny is the desire for it to be more than a fantasy. I don't see it as lust as much as love in it's purest form...his heart is aching...

As I wrote under "Captain" it isn't a simple song about any "captain" or a simple story about a lover. I think Dave paints a portrait of a man who whishes to be a sole captain of his life. But his life without God is rather miserable. And in this context words "I don’t want your pity only the promise that you’ll stay with me tonight" give the full picture of a man who cries to God to be with him.

Again I must say that I like the Lillywhite Version much much much more.
