I wish I could remember exactly what he said to me..... It was something like "It's about being faced with a problem you'd never expect to overcome... but you just take hold, and ride though it and end up on the other side" probably far from the exact quote but that's that

Again there are a lot of lyric mistakes. Seems like most of Queensryche lyrics get butchered.
It is a song of overcoming obstacles, finding strength, to perceviere over the struggles facing you. I personally see a lot of reference to a large group of youngsters in a genre that is not popular. Example: when grunge broke, there were a small group in the grunge scene that must have been ridiculed before grunge broke. "We are the strong, the youth united We are one, we are children of the light" (its actually thunder he is saying, not light though)
when we saw them open for priest geoff said somthing about "when your running and a big pile of shit falls in your way and you turn around and another pile of shit blocks your path, you dive in that shit with your head down and keep going" Dont Give Up! is basically what it is, your desire for somthing can do push you beyond your known limits
