Is It in My Head? Lyrics
I see a man without a problem
I see a country always starved,
I hear the music of a heartbeat,
I walk, and people turn and laugh.
Is it in my head
Is it in my head
Is in my head here at the start?
Is it in my head
Is it in my head
Is it in my head, or in my heart?
I pick up phones and hear my history.
I dream of all the calls I miss.
I try to number those who love me,
And find exactly what the trouble is.
Is it in my head etc.
I feel I'm being followed,
My head is empty
Yet every word I say turns out a sentence.
Statements to a stranger
Just asking for directions
Turn from being help to being questions.

If you're a Who fan, you need to listen to Quadrophenia!
Jimmy sees "a man without a problem" and wonders how this can be possible in a world where entire nations are starving. He is starting to realise that he can't take on all the world's problems himself, and that the "man without a problem" actually has just as many problems as him. Personally, I think this song should have come after I've Had Enough on the album.
@Regos the Sane Actually, and particularly if it came after "Ive had enough" this is easily a reflection of a cynical response to those around him/them. "I pick up phones and hear my history" - have you ever had someone in your life that would chant the litany of what you have done wrong when you talked to them? (particularly taking the next line - glad to not take the call) And counting those that love him (unconditionally?)

He, like so many, is without a problem. He has fame, fortune, and all that come with that. And yet, he is starving. Who are the real friends? Who loves him, truely? Are these empty words/empty responses/superficial people in his head or in his heart? Are they real or imagined?
amazing album amazing song and oh yea one hell of an amazing band!
nods I'm with ya floydian18. XD
This song actually addresses Jimmy's mental health problems, such as his Thought Disorder.
"My head is empty Yet every word I say turns out a sentence."
One symptom of thought disorder is: 'An increase in the amount of spontaneous speech compared to what is considered customary.'
