Freestyle, watch me flow, to rock the show
This is how I live my life, thought you should know
When the right time comes around like you see
I get down on the mic, a catastrophe
Hits up everybody, now people up in the party
Wanna hate us, but some love us, and some they just wanna show us
All the love that they got to give, now can you feel this?
And if you can then please tell me now
So bust a move, you're down, I'll break it down
Never felt this good inside I can't deny
How much fun it is to just pick up a mic
And say what's on my mind, you hear me right?
Now I gotta say that the fans are the ones that make us
And I gotta thank you all every time you come out and see us
So if you're not, I'm ready to say
I got to make it today
Don't wanna waste it away
I keep it all to myself
One, two, three, now you envy me, got you coming on down
And you're standin' next to me
Hits on this mic, this one's hard to see
I rip it on down, all the way, to the funky beat
What I gotta sat to the people that wanna hear it
Are the feelings on my mind
At the time, this is how I see it
Now just come on up and open your eyes
But only one at a time
And when the people ask me why
I keep it all to myself

Chorus
You can pick the fight; I'll rock the mic
You can't stop the beat as I rhyme
When I kick it I flip it on back to my side
I'm gonna rip it up

Chorus

All right I come back around, you down, watch me now
I wanna say what I gotta say, hear me now
We're gonna keep on, yeah, rocking these shows let me know
Rush up beside your head now you know
Feel it when I flow, I'm right up in your space
And I will not let you down; do you recognize my face?
Throw your hands up and down right now
I rip it up on the mic
We're gonna make it alright
I keep it all to myself

Four, five, six, got up in the mix, got you coming on down
You're still standin' next to me
Hits on the mic, this one's hard to see
I rip it on down, all the way, to the funky beat
What I gotta say to the people that wanna hear it
Are the feelings on my mind
At the time, this is how I see it
So just come on up and open your eyes
But only one at a time
And when the people ask why
I keep it all to myself

Chorus
(Repeat)

Rip it up!

Rip it up, rip it up, I can't stop it now
Yeah, rip it up, rip it up, I can't stop it now
Yeah, rip it ip, rip it up, I can't stop
Rip it up!

Rip it up, rip it up, I can't stop it now
Yeah, rip it up, rip it up, I can't stop it now
Yeah, rip it ip, rip it up, I can't stop
Rip it up!

Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

Gentle Hour
Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,

Punchline
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran sings about missing his former partner and learning important life lessons in the process on “Punchline.” This track tells a story of battling to get rid of emotions for a former lover, whom he now realized might not have loved him the same way. He’s now caught between accepting that fact and learning life lessons from it and going back to beg her for another chance.
