a warm bed. covers thrown around and out of place. 12:00 flashing over and over again on the clock. early dawn light coming through the window. just me and the one i love, laying in bed. half asleep. fully awake. amazing.
i think this song is about a couple going through problems.. the narrator obviously cares about him, and regrets what happened (perhaps the problems are the "promise me maybes and say things you dont mean").
"keep our love burning just like it used to do" and "lets not discuss all these things we cant undo" give that feeling of regret.. remembrance of a better time in their relationship.
this is a beautiful song. even the "concrete colored skies" give the image of a lifeless day (i think most skies are really beautiful, but that plain gray sky, where it drizzles rain, its depressing and lifeless), where only being with the person she cares about gives that ride any life to it. awesome song :)
A great song. One of my favorites from Bic Runga.
I think this song is about her thinking about all their troubles while they're having sex.
Oh yeah, and she feels like sex is the only thing keeping them together.
This is one of my favorite songs from Bic Runga. I like how the song is simply done, by acoustic guitar. For the meaning of the song, I'd have to agree with the second comment made. A beautiful, simple song.
When I listen to this song I think she has just broken up with someone and he is driving her home. So she knows it's over but doesn't want to believe it. She doesn't want him to drop her off because that will really be the end, whereas while they're in the car she can pretend everything's still all right.
I love this song, it's so.. melancholy. I also love the simplicity of the song, being played by acoustic guitar as well; it makes the lyrics that much more powerful. I always thought this song was about someone falling out of love and knowing it was time to end things, but they had so much history filled with beautiful moments, she tried to focus on them, almost in an attempt to fool herself into believing they should still be together. "Rain fall from concrete coloured skies" is my favourite line too. Wonderful imagery.
I read that she wrote this song right before a show..within 5 minutes or something. Amazing song
it was written 5 minutes before her first gig when she didnt have enough songs to make up a 40 minute set
