Mona Lisa Lyrics

Mona Lisa, Mona Lisa, men have named you
You're so like the lady with the mystic smile
Is it only 'cause you're lonely they have blamed you?
For that Mona Lisa strangeness in your smile?

Do you smile to tempt a lover, Mona Lisa?
Or is this your way to hide a broken heart?
Many dreams have been brought to your doorstep
They just lie there and they die there
Are you warm, are you real, Mona Lisa?
Or just a cold and lonely lovely work of art?

Do you smile to tempt a lover, Mona Lisa?
Or is this your way to hide a broken heart?
Many dreams have been brought to your doorstep
They just lie there and they die there
Are you warm, are you real, Mona Lisa?
Or just a cold and lonely lovely work of art?

Cover art for Mona Lisa lyrics by Nat King Cole

This is definitely one of my favorite Nat King Cole songs. The way I see it, Mona Lisa is being used as a specific example of a general topic. If that makes sense at all. If it doesn't, what I mean is that the general idea is that this girl is mysterious- she's always smiling, but no one can really put a finger on why. Is she smiling to tempt a lover? To hide a broken heart? Is she being real or is she faking it? But he's making this generalization with the specific example of the ever-popular Mona Lisa painting that no one quite understands.

I have to say, it's obviously one of the better songs to sing to a lady friend of yours. Can't get enough.

seems to be exactly what whitedaisesxo is saying.
