To me i think this is about a man who is severely depressed maybe about something he did in the past,he shut out the world and isolated himself and i'm guessing the send angels part is asking god for help, then he realizes that he made a mistake and the part where it says he didn't recognize the man he'd become, he let that mistake get the best of him that he didn't realize what he has become. And he now wants forgiveness.
