Thank You

This song is obviously not a metaphor of any kind. Listen to any other Descendents song, they always use clear and concise up front thoughts. Never do they try to hide meanings behind complicated words. This song is about a band that had more influence on him than on any other. I love this song.

I was just thinking along the same lines... because for me, this song is about the Descendents.

alot of people get into music just because of one person who inspired them. I'm betting this was written about someone who really inspired him. I know there are musicians I feel this way about, so I'm not sure there's any further meaning that needs found. Milo's fairly straightforward almost always.

It's about a lot of bands. Any band that inspires, really. Karl wrote it and used to yell out different band names when they would play "Thank You." A few of the bands names mentioned were The Last, X, and Black Flag among others. I figure it's just a general shout out to the feeling you get when you really love a band.

i think its just about how punk rock kids feel about punk rock bands. like they speak for them and stuff. that's how i feel. fuck yeah. thank you for playing the way you play.

A love song in two ways. The obvious one is about music. Listening to your favorite band or song and wanting to thank whoever wrote it because of the joy it brings you. The other is about a girl, only told through the metaphor or music. "Thank you for playing the way you play" could be about a girl who pushes all of your buttons in all of the right ways and makes you feel teriffic. Just listen to it and you can see it both ways.

This has to be one of the best songs ever. I love it.

That's a great thought, the whole song being a metaphor for a girl, Tupac style. I always thought it was about a song/band that is really personal to him and he can totally relate to, we all have those bands. For me it's The*Ataris and has been for years, if I were to write a song about them this would be it, "Cause you got a way To say what I can never say right - right on" He's just said the exact thing I'd say for this song!
