Fade To Grey Lyrics

Devenir a gris
Devenir a gris

One man on a lonely platform
One case sitting by his side
Two eyes staring cold and silent
Shows fear as he turns to hide

Ah, ah, we fade to grey (fade to grey)
Ah, ah, we fade to grey (fade to grey)

Un homme dans une gare desolee
Une valise a ses cotes
Deux yeux fixes et froids
Montrent de la peur lorsqu'il
Se tourne pour se cacher

Ah, ah, we fade to grey (fade to grey)
Ah, ah, we fade to grey (fade to grey)

Sent la pluie comme un ete anglais
Comme les notes d'une chanson lontaine
Sortant de derriere d'un poster
Esperant que la vie ne fut si longue

Ah, ah, we fade to grey (fade to grey)
Ah, ah, we fade to grey (fade to grey)

Feel the rain like an English summer
Hear the notes from a distant song
Stepping out from a backdrop poster
Wishing life wouldn't be so dull

Devenir a gris

Ah, ah, we fade to grey (fade to grey)
Ah, ah, we fade to grey (fade to grey)
Ah, ah, we fade to grey (fade to grey)
Ah, ah, we fade to grey (fade to grey)

You're right, MrLongrove. I don't know where I remember reading that about East Berlin, but this is from the Visage website from the New Wave Complex:

"Midge Ure, Billy Currie (Ultravox) and Chris Payne (Gary Numan band) are credited with writing the song. Gary Numan shed some light on the matter for the Numan Digest. 'As far as I'm concerned Chris and Billy were the driving force behind writing 'Fade To Grey'. They used to work on it during the sound checks on my '79 tour. Cedric (Sharpley - Gary Numan band) was also heavily involved. In those days it was called 'Toot City'.'"

Sad sounding dance song. I could be wrong but I think the lyrics were written by Midge Ure and the music was written by Billy Currie and Chris Payne while they were on tour as Gary Numan's backup band. One of the coolest songs of early 80s electronica.

It's not just you Asteroid. Kelly Osbourne's One Word is a direct rip off of Fade To Grey. I'm surpised she hasn't been sued yet.

@MrLongrove I'd forgotten all about that but you're absolutely correct.

Is it just me, or does Kelly Osbourne's One Word sound insanely like this song?

Sounds like a song about depression to me.

I believe that Steve, or one of the members of the group, were inspired by this looking at East Berlin or entering East Berlin, where the buildings seemed to "Fade to Grey"...otherwise, simply a brilliant song...

A real classic, The way the siren sneaks in over the beat is superb, and the whole thing spells real tristesse, not just posing. When I first heard it I thought the chorus was \"We failed to cry!\" -british stiff upper lip? :-)

The \"ah-ah\" bit and its chords were nicked a few years ago by Swedish indie megastars Kent for their single \"Kärleken väntar\" (Love Is Waiting) , also a really good one.

it's said the same thing, english, french... I didn't knew the members had something to do with gary numan.. I find the whole starting electro scene at 80's fantastic! :D specially the 'dark side' of it...a lot of black pearls and that is one. the video for this song is amazing... it is used as an ad at VH1... by the way, are those painting famous? like, the boy being paint by the girl looks like imitating J. Caesar.

I interpreted the chorus as death. When you die, it's said you fade away and skeletons are a grey. So fading to grey. Like decomposing
