You're all wrong, except summerlr. Matt said in an interview that it's about "hiding behind personalities that we create for other people", hence the title. It's about acting (ie "showbiz") and pretending to be a certain way just to fit in.
We all wear a social mask in order to fit in with others and sometimes it tends to get the better of us. Some of us constantly feel compelled to be a certain way in order to feel like we belong ("trying to please you for too long"). We repress our true feelings in order to fit in ("controlling my feelings for too long").
Also, Matt's trying to say that people like to take advantage of you if you're too submissive ("visions of greed you wallow/they make me dream your dreams/they make me scream your screams").
The world's a stage and very few of us are well-rehearsed for it. ;)

I sounds to me like it's about Matt doesn't always want to do what the greedy producers want him to, how celebreties can become toys to the one publish their records.

i love this song. I think it's publicity, the people force him (matt) to be as they want him to be, but he can't cope with that, and just "collapses" after a while. that's one agstridden song. brilliant

The song is about, well, showbiz. Live it's very raw, you can get lost in a song like this.
