Straight On Lyrics
Quite some time, I been sittin' it out
Didn't take no chances
I was a pris'ner of doubt.
I knocked down the wailin' wall
Ain't no sin
Got the feel of fortune; deal me in
Comin' straight on for you. You made my mind.
Now I'm stronger. Now I'm comin' through
Straight on, straight on for you
Straight on for you.
Now I know I got to play my hand
What the winner don't know, a gambler understands
My heart keeps playin' it through
with you, my friend
I'll take my chances on you again and again
Comin' straight on for you. You made my mind
Now I'm stronger. Now I'm comin' through
Straight on, straight on for you
Straight on for you
Didn't take no chances
I was a pris'ner of doubt.
I knocked down the wailin' wall
Ain't no sin
Got the feel of fortune; deal me in
Now I'm stronger. Now I'm comin' through
Straight on, straight on for you
Straight on for you.
What the winner don't know, a gambler understands
My heart keeps playin' it through
with you, my friend
I'll take my chances on you again and again
Now I'm stronger. Now I'm comin' through
Straight on, straight on for you
Straight on for you

i think the gambling and card references are a euphimism for takin chances on love
It's a love song, and probably for someone from her past because she mentions "again and again".
It's a little different sounding their other songs. The bass line in the beginning.:) And the guitar riff-really a great song. :)

This song starts out talking about how a girl who checked out of trying to find or win love. After some tears she broke down that wailing wall and has decided that there is someone she loves that is worth the chance. Her attitude has turned around and she feels fortune is on her side. She has not been a prior winner of love but has decided to gamble her heart again for her love. This man has helped make up her mind and she is going to go back and try to win this time. She is stronger and coming through to the positive and with her sights set straight on to this man she loves and is willing to take a chance on again and again.
First, I think Ann Wilson is one of the best female voices ever in any genre. Tremendous range. Second, this was "hard rock" in my days of youth, and with female lead vocals, it's that much more an impact on a young man. Third, OMG, she's so direct in her desire! She's coming STRAIGHT ON for me!
Gotta love it.
@veryken ... Ann Wilson is not one of the best female voices ever.... She is the BEST female voice ever... and probably the best voice ever

Life is so up and down sometimes that when you feel "up" it means its a good time to share the feel of fortune with an attraction you meet. I love the line of "what the winner dont know the gambler understands." the winner is gonna always win big or small but the gambler has the chance of the ultimate prize. I am not even a card player but the metaphors of this song are sending chills up and down my spine. God bless ❤!
This song is about being addicted to gambling, card games. The mention of "straight" being a combination of cards.
If it were a card hand then it would be a heart flush. :)

Deciding to stop being the object of love (the one that waits to get chosen, the wallflower) and to be the subject.
SOmething happened... somewhere the speaker changed/ was changed/ had a watershed moment & realized that s/he could/ needed to/ wanted to have agency in relationships.
It might not even be about "going after" someone, but about making a decision to be a part -OF- the relationship rather than just being -IN- it...
good song.
is it me, or does the drum intro to this sound a lot like the beginning of the Rolling Stones "Miss You"?
Stone Free, yeah, I always get those songs mixed up when I hear the beginning start on the radio.
I think I heard a different version of this song on the "Alex Jones Radio show". Harder, Metal Style. Anyone know who covered it? btw. check out INFOWARS.COM cheers!
