Christmas In Prison Lyrics

It was Christmas in prison and the food was real good
We had turkey and pistols carved out of wood
I dream of her always even when I don't dream
Her name's on my tongue and her blood's in my stream.

Wait a while eternity
Old Mother Nature's got nothin' on me
Come to me, run to me, come to me now
We're rollin', my sweetheart
We're flowin' by God

She reminds me of a chess game with someone I admire
Or a picnic in the rain after a prairie fire
Her heart is as big as this whole goddamn jail
And she's sweeter than saccharine at a drug store sale

Wait a while eternity
Old Mother Nature's got nothin' on me
Come to me, run to me, come to me now
We're rollin', my sweetheart
We're flowin' by God

The search light in the big yard turns 'round with the gun
And spotlights the snowflakes like the dust in the sun
It's Christmas in prison there'll be music tonight
I'll probably get homesick, I love you, Good night

Wait a while eternity
Old Mother Nature's got nothin' on me
Come to me, run to me, come to me now
We're rollin', my sweetheart
We're flowin' by God

this song is always going to make me think of my mom. every christmas she would opt to play the whole souvenirs album instead of "christmas" music. it's a gem of a song.

I have been to prison, in fact years ago I spent a long time there. Wherever this idea came from, it had to have come from the mind of an ex-convict. It is exactly how the holidays are in prison, the big light does go round with the gun, so many little ideas in here that can only come from experience, thats all, gem indeed, great artist great stuff.

@Brachs Amen!! Its a lonely time in prison over Christmas

"The search light in the big yard Swings round with the gun And spotlights the snowflakes Like the dust in the sun."

It's perfect. No disrespect, but I bet it took a while to get that line just right.
