I don't think this has to do with a personal, sexual relationship like a lot of people here have said. To me, it seems like she got a little too interested in her neighbors' lives from afar. Kind of like when you watch a TV show and you get too invested in the characters affairs. She gets so interested in watching their lives from across the way that she thinks about them all night.

Its on the new cd... but you wrote that so long ago, maybe you've found the answer. I was listening to some boots of Tee and Esses concerts and heard Tegan talking about her new apartment and how she could see the "recluse" as she called her. I'm pretty sure that's the same person they're talking about in this song, but I could be wrong.
Yeah, I read somewhere that that was why Tegan wrote it. I like that it's just a little dirty-sounding: "I spend the afternoon on top of you."

They said during a concert I went to that it was when she moved into an apartment and the people across the way were "a little too close for comfort"
i love this song and i love tegan and sara. i know i'm probably wrong but when i heard this song i thought it was about a girl that is with a guy and knows hes thinking about another girl. the girl hes with doesn't want to know or think about he another girl and what they did together.
