So you walked with me for a while
Bared your naked soul
And you told me of your plan
How you would never let them know

In the morning of the night
You cried a long lost child
And I tried oh I tried to hold you

But you were young
And you were wild

But, I , I will never be the same
Oh, I , I will never be the same
Caught in your eyes
Lost in your name
I will never be the same

Secrets of your life
I never wanted for myself
But you guarded them like a lie
Placed up on the highest shelf
In the morning of the night
When I woke to find you gone
I knew your distant devil
Must be draggin' you along

But, I , I will never be the same
Oh, I , I will never be the same
Caught in your eyes
Lost in your name
I will never be the same

And you swore that you were bound for glory
And for wanting you had no shame
But I loved you
And then I lost you
And I will never be the same

To me this is a song of Love and Trust. Trust is formed by situations and talking about our past and our deep feelings. I was in a relationship with a much younger woman that had a hard past. She protected her past by not talking about it or lying about it to make it seem not so bad. But it was, and the reluctance is for us not to be open and vulnerable to the other. Because they can always say goodbye. For me this song was about the woman I was with. She protected her past so she would not become open and vulnerable. However, this does not build trust but mistrust. The Demons in our head are the unresolved issues of our past. Sharing the burden with our love ones helps lift this burden. But if the past is so bad, then we are left with the other persons decision if they want to continue the relationship or not. This can be a basic trust situation to build on or a deal breaker. I think Melissa sings about it being a deal breaker. The other person was not willing to take a chance, so she ran away, still fighting her Demons. Mine did.

I guess I look at this completely different. the way I see it, a women was in love with another woman, but the other woman was ashamed of what they were doing. she thought being gay was a sin and so she left in the middle of the night.
