We're The Replacements Lyrics
Hi, we're the Replacements (hi)
Hi, we're the Replacements (hi)
Hi, we're the Replacements (hi)
And we're playing in a rock'n'roll band (we're playing in a rock'n'roll band)
We're having a good time (we're)
We're having a good time (we're)
We're having a good time (we're)
Rock'n'rollin' 'til the break of dawn (Rock'n'rollin' 'til the break of dawn)
Hey, where's Tommy? Someone find Tommy
We're out on the road
Moving equipment, where's the equipment
Soon we're going home
Then we'll have a party (then)
Then we'll have a party (then)
Then we'll have a party (then)
Rock'n'rollin' 'til the break of dawn (Rock'n'rollin' 'til the break of dawn)

This song refers to a real band, The Replacements, formed by Paul Westerberg, Bob & Tommy Stinson, and Chris Mars. They were known for their rowdy, drunken behavior at shows. In the beginning, they were hardcore. Later, they mellowed out. Paul Westerberg went solo.
This refers to when the Johns kept finding themselves often booked at the exact same venues The Replacements played the night before. They would introduce the band as The Replacements instead of They Might Be Giants as a joke, and this song came out of it. There are subtle jokes in these lyrics pertaining to The Replacements' reputation of performing belligerently drunk.
