Stereo Lyrics

My life is a stereo, how loud does it go?
What songs do I know? What ever happened to my plans?
What ever happened to the life I thought I had?
My life is a stereo, kinda cheaply made though.
How bad does it show? what ever did become of all my friends?
What ever happened to the likes of all of them?
My life is a stereo, turn me on and lets go,
Turn me up louder. I'll scream as loud and clear as I can scream.
And if u like what you're hearing, please hang on to me.
Ooo I like being here, and im all hooked up wrong
Hang on to me, oh im one of a million,
one of a million
one of a million
Please hang on to me.
My life is a stereo, out of phase, but u know.
60 cycles humming, what ever happened to my friends?
What ever happened to the likes of all of them?
Ooo I like being here, and im all hooked up wrong
Hang on to me, oh im one of a million,
one of a million
one of a million
And my lights are like candles,
I'm so afraid of new technology.
I'm in the race and I know I don't wanna be
Yeah im so afraid of whats to come for me
I'm in the race and I know I don't wanna be
Live ends as a stereo pack me up and lets go
Put me any where please don't think of leaveing me behind
What ever happens to u, i'll get on just fine.
one of a million - x 6

This song was relased when I was in year 9, right after my best friend of my whole life dumped me. God, the nights I spent crying, thinking of him, listening this song, trying to convince myself that I could live without him. "Whatever happens to you, I'll get on just fine"

Holy Shit, not enough people have commented on this song. This is an amazingly good song....I love it. This song definatly has an underlying meaning behind it. "One of a Million" I think means, one of a million people who feel the way he does, or are trapped in this. Stuffs going wrong, and he's relating it to the new world of technology.... he doesnt like it. I dont know, its cool, and I think anyone who listens to the song gets an automatic understanding of it... I do. Just hard to describe.

If anyone here has seen "The Brave Little Toaster", you'll realize this is just about the stereo in the movie. My dad pointed that out and it fits perfectly. If you love this song, watch the movie just so you can see.

Musically, this song is one of my favourite to belt out. It’s got some amazing runs for the vocalist, the drums in this tune are so interesting… the “tick tick tick” right before the pace change always give me a little thrill. Lyrically, the song is so beautifully analogized as the “speaker” (no pun intended) is singing from the perspective of the actual stereo, the vehicle in which the overall message is conveyed. Ironically, the message is that this valued instrument, the actual material stereo, which we so value and treasure, is merely symbolic of the human we love and adore, value and treasure, whom internally fears their ultimate replacement. We upgrade - from a phonograph to a record player, cassette, CD, iPod - move on to the newest, prettiest, most impressive. Lose sight of the love we had - for the “thing” that we expect to give us even much joy. We fear being replaced.. The lyric speaks to the apprehension of becoming older, less appreciated. Less desired. Even obselete. It (the stereo/we) BEGS to move ahead with this unappreciated and thankless relationship we have with the people we strive so hard to please. The message is so sad and deep and beautiful. It should cause pause and reflection, as in this writers humble opinion, despite progress and evolution, we ultimately become more and more in love with the vinyl record player.,. And many search heaven and earth to try to replace one exactly like they once had. I’d be lying if I said I didn’t follow the trends as music evolved. I am happy that I held on to my record player, the thing that gives me so much joy, as it has aged for over 50 years now. I appreciate and treasure it now more than ever, as the “latest and greatest” new thing have long since been left behind. Its lights are like candles. But it’s stood the harshest of circumstances and test of time. So very well written.
