Exsanguination Lyrics

Welcome the whole new pain
and take comfort in what you've become.
I waved as I passed myself along the way.
I have arrived so unashamed but my reflection no longer seems the same.
It seems much dimmer now... it seems so dim.
Just stumble and fall into a world that's over crowded.
And you will find me.
Won't recognize me;
and I won't recognize myself.
I've arrived so unashamed,
but all my senses no longer seem the same.
I can sense everything.
My sight's so clear.
In an instant,, my life just slipped away,
I fought for life, the whole time you were holding me down.
You watched me dying.
Holding me down, you brought my rebirth.

This song, along with many others that Davey writes is about Vampires. You can definately tell if you read the lyrics carefully. If anyone has read the books by Anne Rice, you can see that it is relating to vampires. Welcome a whole new pain--knowing that you are immortal, and having your mortal body die.....all my senses no longer seem the same. I can sense everything--Vampires have increased senses, and they view the world in a whole different way.....in an instant my life just slipped away--when the vampire made him and he has no control over it.....I fought for life the whole time you were holding me down. You watched me dying. Holding me down, you brought my rebirth--he was drained of blood to the point of dying, as the vampire watched, then finally brought vampire blood back into him and made him borne to a vampire.

I am in no way implying that Davey is a vampire, I do not believe in vampires, but I dont know about Davey, all I can say is what he made this song represent.

If you have AIM or AOL, then IM me at krazykid0333, i can talk to you more about AFI, or other songs.

i think this song is about being held down by others who try to control you. You die internally when u can't express yourself and you are what you are so don't try and change yourself

ok dude, sorry, but i think there's a lot more to it than vampires. Vampires dont exist in real life, remember? I don't think Davey has a strange vampire fetish either

I believe this song is about how other people and hard times can really bring you down. But ultimately, you learn from this situation--you are no longer lost and blinded and this situation where these people had been holding you down brings you a new realization. You are "reborn."

Oh come on people, ForeverDead is spot on about this song. it IS about vampires!!! It is so obvious! The song is called Exsanguination which means 'to be drained of blood'. Also the song before it on the album is called Porphyria, which is a skin disease which makes you allergic to sunlight, so in the olden days, people who caught it were thought to be ......VAMPIRES!!! The album ha a lot of connection with vampires.
ForeverDead has already explained the song and it fits perfectly. Davey doesnt have to believe in vampires to write a song about them does he? This song is also off an album where Davey has turned into a goth and so writes about all dark stuff. He also likes all Tim Burton films (nightmare before christmas, beetlejuice etc) and dark things, halloween, occult stuff anyway and looks like one of those vampire people and i also doubt that Davey has a vampire fetish. but that dont mean he cant write about them.

I wasnt quite sure what this line meant though, "Just stumble and fall into a world that's over crowded, and you will find me, wont recognize me, i wont recognize myself" if it was connected to vampires. But i think it means like all you have to do is make a mistake and stumble into the grasp of a vampire and your life will be f**ked and you wont be able to recognise yourself because you have changed so significantly. But the "overcrowded world" bit puzzled me. So i came up with this- when you are a vampire you will see the world as overcrowded because: i have 3 explanations for this

  1. There are so many vampires in the world that you didn't even know existed before you became one

  2. The world is overcrowded with humans who are the enemy because now you want to drink their blood or exsanguinate them if you will

  3. Davey couldn't be bothered to think of anything good to write

Personally I think number 1

Not trying to be disrespectful, but i totally disagree. Here's what i really think the song means. He talks about conforming and becoming just like everyone in a perhaps commerical and homogenious society. "Welcome a whole new pain/ and take comfort in what you've become." The pain is giving up parts of yourself and taking comfort in what you've become could mean take comfort for you are right in the eyes of society. "I have arrived so unashamed but my reflection no longer seems the same. It seems much dimmer now... it seems so dim" He feels he is losing much of himself, his reflection is dimmed because he is no longer entirely there. "Just stumble and fall into a world that's over crowded." I think that supports it the most: Just fall into the society and culture. And you will find me. Won't recognize me; and I won't recognize myself. This means that he is not entirely himself. I've arrived so unashamed, but all my senses no longer seem the same. I can sense everything. My sight's so clear. Ok I suppose this could be talk of vampires, but i really doubt it. THe way I read it is he now understands what drives people and why so many are how they are.

In an instant,, my life just slipped away, I fought for life, the whole time you were holding me down. You watched me dying. Holding me down, you brought my rebirth. He fought to be something else but his fate was inevitable and he has become reborn.

I dont know if this is right, the only person who does is Davey. I just dont see at all how it could be about vampires.

Maybe its about what you are saying but he is using vampires as allegory for capitalist society.

OK i think i got the answer now, ok our two stories go together right. He talks about conforming and becoming like everyone else but he uses vampires as the medium for it because it is probably how Davey kinda sees it. Ok? So it isnt about vampires but the situation is compared to vampires

Grr...vampires are neat.
