Weather 'round here choppin' and changin'
Surgery in the air
Print shirts and southern accents
Cigars and big hair
We got the wheels and petrol is cheap
Only went there for a week
Got the sun got the sand
Got the batteries in the handy cam
Her eyes all swimming pool blue
Dumb bells on a diving board
Baby's always attracted to the things she's afraid of
Big girl with the sweet tooth
Watches the skinny girl in the photo shoot
Freshmen squeaky clean
She tastes of chlorine

My mammy

Love the movies, babe
Love to walk those movie sets
Get to shoot someone in the foot
Get to smoke some cigarettes
No big deal we know the score
Just back from the video store
Got the car and the car chase
What's he got inside the case
I want a close up of that face
Here comes the car chase

I bought two new suits
Miami
Pink and blue
Miami
I took a picture of you
My mammy
Getting hot in a photo booth
Miami
I said you looked like a madonna
You said maybe
Said I want to have your baby
Baby
Baby
We could make something beautiful
Something that wouldn't be a problem
We could make something beautiful
Something that wouldn't be a problem
At least not in Miami
You know, some places are like your auntie
But there's no place like

Miami
Miami
My mammy

Miami
Miami

Why would anyone hate this song? More to the point, why would anyone hate "Playboy Mansion" which is as much about LA as it is Miami... or "Velvet Dress," which is the sexiest song ever.

    What the hell?

The point of nearly EVERY song on POP is the artificiality of American culture, that we Americans strive to be more artificial. Plastic surgery, sexier clothes, shinier car, let's look like movie stars, don't tell me anything important or deep, I don't want to know. Pardon me while I put more gel in my hair.

If you don't like these songs you're either not very bright, or you're so amazingly vapid in the broader sense that the songs describe you better than you will ever know.

Well, pdm, I hate it! What an awful song. This is the reason Pop was so underrated! It was a good album but then they put this garbage in the middle of it. That and Playboy Mansion! It's okay U2! I'll forgive you because of all the good music you've givin us.

are you nuts? this is an awesome song from one of their best albums. it's funny that u2 fans never realize this as they prefer songs to sing along with when half drunk. the 80's are dead people. u2 is not reo speedwagon. they were one of the few groups to actually not make identical CD's one after another...why they still remain. i lived in miami and this is the first song i heard to actually potray it as it really is...bright and fun but artificial and pretencious.

I've been living in SoBe for the past 5 years (I know, I will mature eventually), and you can experience the whole POP album just by walking down the streets. I would have chosen something more appealing to inspire me, but hell, so many flies can't be wrong. Believe it or not, the taste of chlorine provokes a Pavlovian reflex, kicking the libido up a notch. I know, is sick, but hell, Miami is where you all come to die, so...

Great song, great album, fairweather fans hate POP. I love how you can't find the groove the first few times you hear it but over the course of 2 minutes the instruments drip in, and then after the 'car chase' solo (which Sounds like a car chase) the drums kick in and that crazy loop drops out, I Love it.

I love this song, especially the "C-car chase," and then the solo. Great song.

This was the weakest song on U2's worst ever album and is the black mark on their otherwise perfect record. Now, let's never mention it again.

POP is ok, Miami's an ok song, but POP will never measure up against U2's best songs (most of which were from... the 80's! And will never die!).

The Night We Met
Lord Huron
This is a hauntingly beautiful song about introspection, specifically about looking back at a relationship that started bad and ended so poorly, that the narrator wants to go back to the very beginning and tell himself to not even travel down that road. I believe that the relationship started poorly because of the lines: "Take me back to the night we met:When the night was full of terrors: And your eyes were filled with tears: When you had not touched me yet" So, the first night was not a great start, but the narrator pursued the relationship and eventually both overcame the rough start to fall in love with each other: "I had all and then most of you" Like many relationships that turn sour, it was not a quick decline, but a gradual one where the narrator and their partner fall out of love and gradually grow apart "Some and now none of you" Losing someone who was once everything in your world, who you could confide in, tell your secrets to, share all the most intimate parts of your life, to being strangers with that person is probably one of the most painful experiences a person can go through. So Painful, the narrator wants to go back in time and tell himself to not even pursue the relationship. This was the perfect song for "13 Reasons Why"

Son Şansın - Şarkı Sözleri
Hayalperest
This song seemingly tackles the methods of deception those who manipulate others use to get victims to follow their demands, as well as diverting attention away from important issues. They'll also use it as a means to convince people to hate or kill others by pretending acts of terrorism were committed by the enemy when the acts themselves were done by the masters of control to promote discrimination and hate. It also reinforces the idea that these manipulative forces operate in various locations, infiltrating everyday life without detection, and propagate any and everywhere. In general, it highlights the danger of hidden agendas, manipulation, and distraction, serving as a critique of those who exploit chaos and confusion to control and gain power, depicting a cautionary tale against falling into their traps. It encourages us to question the narratives presented to us and remain vigilant against manipulation in various parts of society.

No Surprises
Radiohead
Same ideas expressed in Fitter, Happier are expressed in this song. We're told to strive for some sort of ideal life, which includes getting a good job, being kind to everyone, finding a partner, getting married, having a couple kids, living in a quiet neighborhood in a nice big house, etc. But in Fitter, Happier the narrator(?) realizes that it's incredibly robotic to live this life. People are being used by those in power "like a pig in a cage on antibiotics"--being pacified with things like new phones and cool gadgets and houses while being sucked dry. On No Surprises, the narrator is realizing how this life is killing him slowly. In the video, his helmet is slowly filling up with water, drowning him. But he's so complacent with it. This is a good summary of the song. This boring, "perfect" life foisted upon us by some higher powers (not spiritual, but political, economic, etc. politicians and businessmen, perhaps) is not the way to live. But there is seemingly no way out but death. He'd rather die peacefully right now than live in this cage. While our lives are often shielded, we're in our own protective bubbles, or protective helmets like the one Thom wears, if we look a little harder we can see all the corruption, lies, manipulation, etc. that is going on in the world, often run by huge yet nearly invisible organizations, corporations, and 'leaders'. It's a very hopeless song because it reflects real life.

Magical
Ed Sheeran
How would you describe the feeling of being in love? For Ed Sheeran, the word is “Magical.” in HIS three-minute album opener, he makes an attempt to capture the beauty and delicacy of true love with words. He describes the magic of it all over a bright Pop song produced by Aaron Dessner.
