Maybe I'm the after glow, 'cause I'm with a band you know.
Don't you hear the laughter on the way... down.
Yes, I am the anchor-man, dining here with Son of Sam.
Hear too much to chatter on the way... down.
Gonna meet a great big star.
Gonna drive his great big car.
Gonna have it all here on the way... down.
The way... down, the way... down, she knows- let's go.
The way... down, the way... down, the way... down, she knows.
Don't you hear the laughter on the way... down.
Yes, I am the anchor-man, dining here with Son of Sam.
Hear too much to chatter on the way... down.
Gonna drive his great big car.
Gonna have it all here on the way... down.
The way... down, the way... down, she knows- let's go.
The way... down, the way... down, the way... down, she knows.

I love this song! It's so gorgeous, and I don't think it gets enough recognition in her catalog. Anyway~~
To me, this song is about selling out... being a musician and losing that purity that you once had, just so you can 'have it all'. But once you have it all, you're sort of going down into hell... Like you can have anything that you want, but you're not happy.
I love this song, but..
I'd always thought it was "yes, I am the anchorman, dining here with circumstance" I think I like my lyric better :o
I love the way she sings it. It starts off strong and ends strong. A good short little song that I would like to see extended into a full song. But oh well.
I love the way the choir kicks in.... makes me think she's singing about going to some kind of hell where she's gonna hang around with bad folks
has a guilty tone to it
i think callisto is right in the fact that its an indictment of 'fame'
or it could be refering to 'giving head' to get what you want
or both ... or nothing
