A small comment here -- she's not questioning anyone's sexuality in this song.

"Hey Jupiter, nothing's been the same. So are you gay, are you blue? Thought we both could use a friend to run to."

The second line "So are you gay, are you blue?", she's not referring to the dude's sexuality (or herself), there's a "hidden" (yet pretty literal) meaning to that, shes coined a phrase using both a literal meaning and a metaphore, where "gay" comes to take its original meaning of "happy", while the "are you blue" part is indeed asking him if he is sad -- "Are you happy? Are you sad?" by asking that, shes showing that, though brokenhearted, she still cares about the man she fell in love with, which is further evidenced by how she calls him Jupiter thorough the song: She has feelings for him, even when he turned her into a wreck.

i listened this song all night at the time when i was in a relationship with one boy who lived far away, and at the same time, in my hometown i met the other guy, jupiter i would say. and i trully was in love with both of them. the love triangle. so until recently i didn't have the 'storytellers' and when i heard tori's saying she was in love triangle at that time it just blew me away, i couldn't believe it. and to the song: shower or a bath - which one of them should i pick? guess i thought i could never feel things i feel - i never thought i could be in love with two boys at the same time. and the guess it's me and me is a part when she/i/all of us in that situation realize that love triangle always ends up with you being alone. with neither one of the two on your side. excuse my english. it takes me to that period in my life every time i'm listening it. very sad.

Thank you for those who notes he explaination of the song when she did story tellers. It is about a love triangle. "Shower or a bath" both serve the same result but different delivery. The term of masochist is that one chooses to take on an additional relationship and there is a form of self torture in having a lover on the side.

I love her work but I can't make sense of her lyrics sometimes. I know it sounds weird, but I always imagine the descent into madness that has come with falling in love. Weird, I know!:)

also jupiter means the love of her life i think, her biggest love, after all jupiter is the biggest planet

For me this song always sounded like a love triangle gone wrong. The one she loves is the one she is calling but he is not answering anymore. In a self destructive move she has sex 'little macochist is lifting up her dress' with the other guy in the triangle because she needs someone to run to.

she said that during the 'under the pink' tour in phoenix, a ghost came and sat on the edge of her bed and sang a song. he led her into the bathroom, still singing, and she turned on all the hot water and its noise harmonized with his singing. he then drew her a picture on the steamed mirror. she interpreted it as being "that earth and Jupiter were in love billions of years ago, then they were separated, and now they are billions of miles apart, and this is earth’s love song to Jupiter."

at the time, she was in a really rough patch and indeed, as she said herself, involved in "a love triangle".

the man she had called over and over was in particular Eric Rosse, and i'm gathering that Jupiter symbolizes him.

This song makes me cry every time I hear it. The Dakota Remix of it is also really good -- I can't decide which I like better.
