Home Lyrics

we'll wander off through the dead of night
past wastelands of shattered souls
warm by my firelight
i peer into the darkness alone

as the indian summer of my remembrance
settles on my bones
cracked and weary, i ask for direction home

home, let the word spill from my mouth
love, love is everything i want
i'm one of many more to come
love, love is everything i want

crossroads outside of town
the heartbroken faces shine
the city lights so far and dull
turning left i know it's time

with an urgent wind upon my rolling heals
to carry me along
my face downcast, i turn to ruins past and home

home, let the word spill from my mouth
love, love is everything i want
i'm one of many more to come
love, love is everything i want

we'll wander off through the dead of night
past terrors and broken homes
wipe the sleep from under your eyes
of riverbanks and catacombs
sleep into the bee and the sea
i was to live this life alone
lay down caligula
cry out, i know it's time

love is everything i want
love is everything i want
love is everything i want
love is everything i want

Despite the fact that it's hidden away on Machina II I think this is one of the Pumpkins' best songs - there are many of course!

To me it's about someone who has found themself alone but is searching for love - whether it be romantic or perhaps a Christian idea of love - to give themself some meaning. The idea of home also suggests that the song is about returning to, or recapturing something, that you used to have/have lost. It also evokes a feeling of content, if 'weary', acceptance.

To announce that 'Love is everything I want' is an incredibly honest statement and Billy sings the song in a way that really brings out the different emotions mentioned.

This song is simply incredible.

I've always thought this song was about Billy and how he changed and what now is very important to him; reconnecting with lost love, whether that be family or romantic.

In the first part, it sounds like he's feeling the weight of rock stardom or just a general disconnection and would like to go back to something familiar. As the song goes on you can see that this isn't an easy thing to do for a couple of reasons. "Face downcast, I turn to ruins past and home." This sounds like he'll be facing some old daemons. He also references Caligula, which I believe to be himself. He's saying,"Enough! I know what I have to do." He knows it will be difficult dealing with his own ego as well as his once forgotten past. And the line "Home, let the word spill from my mouth"...damn, it's so beautiful. It's as if he's yearning so badly for it but is scared to even say it. So, basically, he wants to shake things up and get back to what's really important.

I really love this song. It's subtle but complex and really evokes emotion when you listen to it.

This song is excellent. One of my favorite Smashing Pumpkins songs. I agree with Jakesp's take. I think this is one of the most emotional Pumpkins songs. You can feel the pure honesty in Corgan's voice...so vulnerable, so awesome.

If it weren't for this song I may not be a TSP fan. This is one of the first songs (aside from all of the songs on the greatest hits) That I heard. I loved it from the second I heard it. This song is amazing.

I grew up in a rural place, so this song speaks volumes to me. And that feeling that you just wanna throw in the towel and go back home, I fell for this song in a big way, just love it.

..this song, paired with "Go" is about glass making peace with the ghost of his girlfriend, June. even though she died and their relationship never 'really' ended, he comes to the realization that it should have. so he finds peace, even if its a dark peace.

Jakesp youre totally right, it is hidden away on Machina II. Another Pumpkins tear-jerker for me, and honestly that is based more off of the feel that the lyrics!

I think it's about Billy Corgan going on a camping trip or something. Like him just traveling around on a journey or something. Maybe with James or Jimmy. I'm just taking the lyrics literally.
