I think that this song really starts out with him saying how he sees a girl he likes and they are not together. He writes down his feelings in letters and messages, but he never sends them to her so she doesn't know what he feels. He keeps little peices of paper with his love written on it but never gets up the nerve to tell her and so he treats his love for her almost as if it were dead (epigrams are short poems often used on tombstones). He tries to see if any of his love has "eroded" or worn away from being left alone for so long. Then it reminds him of how much he likes her and re-sparks his love for her and he imagines what it would be like to be with her and can't live much longer without that image becoming real.
He eventually finally gets her to go on a date and he knows that this is only the start. He hopes that over time it will become something so much more than just something in his head and that they can both support and love eachother.

Nice song... though in between it uses lots of heavy grammar I feel.... "figurative"... :D. One of the love quotes for separation and goodbyes - People so seldom say I love you And then it's either too late or love goes. So when I tell you I love you, It doesn't mean I know you'll never go, Only that I wish you didn't have to.

havent heard this song yet sadly but i shall make up a meaning k well i guess its a school love kinda thing like teh whole alliteration,language,figures thingy like yeah...so he's in class i guess and he's thinking about this girl and he's gona write random letters to express his feeelings but doesnt feel liek sending em to her i guess and then i guess he's in math class doing geometry and teh figures remind him of her somehow...hmmm...and yeah so yeah short simple sory peace out hearts

I think, as others said, it's all about hope. It's like, the stage before you get into a relationship, where you're thinking about all the reasons why you and X person would work out, and how great it could be.
I loev this song. The first time I heard it, it totally caught me off guard. I started to think that Hellogoodbye could get through a song without a cutesy, hopeful, puppy-love reference. Obviously that's impossible! The cutesy, hopeful, puppy-love stuff is what makes Hellogoodbye so amazing!
