All the Way Down: Chapter 2 Lyrics

it sat beside his bed as near as it could go
he read it every night just before he'd go
asleep for the night with his dreams in a fight, god save his soul
his mama'd say to him, don't be afraid son. there's no way you'll go

all the way down
all the way down
all the way down
all the way down

his mama tells him, read it and you'll be alright
he took its every word and made it his life

all the way down
all the way down
all the way down
all the way down

he never stood a chance with his coughing at night
he never thought we'd ever make it out of the light now

Face value idea: "it" is the bible? "all the way down" meaning hell? I don't think it's right for one minute. I really believe that there's something deeper in this, but I'm not quite sure what it is.

didnt know bout the new version, the old one seems to be about religion. this song sounds as if it was written before chapter 1 and i wondered if they always had aspirations of writing a prolouge.

i think it is definately about religion, the second verse "his mama tells him, read it and you'll be alright he took its every word and made it his life" makes it sound like his 'mama' has pushed him towards religion by making him read the bible to avouid goin 'all the way down' which i think in this term means hell
