100 Nights Lyrics
A hundred nights of fun and games
A thousand empty glasses
I feel it change
And stay the same
As each day passes
They invite me to their gatherings
In the finer parts of town
They seem attracted to my indifference
The irony just knocks me out
And I love them as if I love them
And they reciprocate with "help"
But I look up at these mirrors sometimes
And I can't see myself
They say that some are born to burn
And some are born to give
They say that people live and learn
Some people only live and live
You don't know that I come here
But if you did, you would know why
So we close our eyes
You didn't notice me
As I passed you on the stairs
How could you ever guess
Looking at my face
How closely I share your taste
How well I know your place
Even the clothes you wear
I've seen them when you're not there
You say that you can win win win
If you know how to play the game
But while you're out there playing you see
There's something you should know
She spends your money
She spends your money on me
A thousand empty glasses
I feel it change
And stay the same
As each day passes
They invite me to their gatherings
In the finer parts of town
They seem attracted to my indifference
The irony just knocks me out
And they reciprocate with "help"
But I look up at these mirrors sometimes
And I can't see myself
And some are born to give
They say that people live and learn
Some people only live and live
But if you did, you would know why
So we close our eyes
As I passed you on the stairs
How could you ever guess
Looking at my face
How closely I share your taste
How well I know your place
Even the clothes you wear
I've seen them when you're not there
If you know how to play the game
But while you're out there playing you see
There's something you should know
She spends your money
She spends your money on me

A tough song to interpret. Taken by itself its quite confusing, but you need to view it as the 3rd part of a trilogy with "This Town" and "The Rakes Progress". Really great songwriting from Hogarth.
The way I see it, "This Town" is about a couple who moves to the big city and in turn gets seduced and corrupted by it. "The Rakes Progress" is about looking back and realizing you lost your way. "100 Nights" has 2 narrators I believe. I feel like the first half before the solo is the guy in the relationship who is describing his new life in the city and how he's playing the game. At the end I feel like there's a twist where its another guy that the woman is seeing who passes this guy who is unaware that he too is being played.
It's clear that there is a love affair with married woman. And artist' met with husband... ("She spends your money on me" - At least she will buy this album with your money while you're SO out there.)
