Bother Lyrics

Wish I was too dead to cry
My self-affliction fades
Stones to throw at my creator
Masochists to which I cater
You don't need to bother;
I don't need to be
I'll keep slipping farther
But once I hold on,
I won't let go 'til it bleeds

Wish I was too dead to care
If indeed I cared at all
Never had a voice to protest
So you fed me shit to digest
I wish I had a reason;
my flaws are open season
For this, I gave up trying
One good turn deserves my dying

You don't need to bother;
I don't need to be
I'll keep slipping farther
But once I hold on,
I won't let go 'til it bleeds

(Solo: Corey)

Wish I'd died instead of lived
A zombie hides my face
Shell forgotten
with its memories
Diaries left
with cryptic entries

And you don't need to bother;
I don't need to be
I'll keep slipping farther
But once I hold on,
I won't let go 'til it bleeds

You don't need to bother;
I don't need to be
I'll keep slipping farther
But once I hold on…
I'll never live down my deceit

Cover art for Bother lyrics by Stone Sour

this song is about being in some major depression.

"wish i was to dead to cry"

he or she wishes that he or she wouldnt feel any sort of emotion.

"my self afflicton fades"

sounds like he or she cutting themself or something related to that. any tyoe of self harm maybe? and it going away?

"stones to throw at my creator"

blaming god, or his or her parents or the depression.

"masochists to wich i cater"

masochist means the deriving of sexual gradification or the tendency to derive sexual gradification from being physically or emotionally abused, so maybe being abused makes him or her feel better?

"you dont need to bother, i dont need to be"

tellin people not to bother to try and help and that he or she doesnt need to be here.

"i'll keep slipping farther, but once i hold on i wont let go till it bleeds"

he or she will keep slipping towards the edge, but if theres any hope to hold onto he or she will hold onto hope.

"wish i was to dead to care, if indeed i cared at all"

wish he or she didnt have to act like they cared about certain things, they never cared at all.

"never had a voice to protest, so you fed me shit to digest"

he or she never stood up for themselves and took it and took it.

"i wish i had a reason, my flaws are open season"

his or her flaws are easy to see so they never had a reason to not be depressed.

"for this i gave up trying, one good turn deserves my dieing"

he or she gave up trying to feel better, and if one other thing goes wrong he or she might as well be dead

"wish i died instead of lived, the zombie hides my face"

he or she pretends to be someone theyre not and wishes they couldve just died.

"shell forgotten with its memories, diaries left with cryptic entries"

maybe he or she killed themself and they were just forgotten, the only memory of them was his or her diary full of depressing entries.

"once i hold on i'll never live down my deceit"

maybe they didnt kill themselves, maybe they are alive and well, but havent forgotten the crap they put up with.

thats my opinion. anything i missed?

I think you might have it all wrong, it's about addiction, the shame and guilt afterwords, affliction doesn't mean cutting, more like self obsessed. So much of this speaks to me about my own..

@kbailey1995 I think you nailed it! Phenomenal insight, awareness and depth. Thank you!

just because slipknot screams & swears a lot doesn't mean that their music is worth any less than stone sour's. why does music need 2 b slow & melodic 2 b meaningful??? slipknot writes about anger, a human emotion. just like pain, sadness, happiness anger IS an emotion. this proves that there is sumthing 2 slipknot's music, the same guy wrote both band's material.

Yeah i agree with you. A song with screaming and yelling in it doesnt mean hes hating the world it can just as easily show saddness depending on the lyrics

Stone Sours “Bother” is an incredible poem that explains the depressed state of Stone Sour’s lead singer Corey Taylor. He explains what being misunderstood and disappointment is like as he puts blame on what is wrong with his life. Some people are blessed with being born into wealth and endless opportunities, while other is not so lucky with fortune. In the First verse, second line he is feed up with his religious creator “Stones to throw at my creator”- Blaming a religious a religious figure for what he has become but instead of giving up on life he hold on to what he made of this life. It sounds like he angry at god but does not get a response from him. He's searching for himself through faith, and the reason he's having trouble finding himself is because he's having trouble with his faith. Everyone in life was born with choices, choices to succeed, and choice’s to live the live that we chose as a pathway to eventually achieve satiety. I don’t know what problems he faced that led him to cry out to his savior, of the reasons of his self-afflicted beatings. There is no sense of trust, no definition of love, he is searching in all directions for a sign to help him through. Corey Taylor sounded like a person who trusted many people but was blind to what there intentions were. People take advantage of the weak and innocent and this world can be so sour at times. It’s so painful to be the one to try to fix things that have went wrong. He states that when you’re beaten on by life’s unjust, repeatedly it is almost

Just as painful to realize that you have to let go. Corey states that he “Never had a voice to protest” but in this world you have to prove so much. Even if you want to do you own thing people will try and walk all over you. Until they realize how much pain you hold inside, how much you’ve been there, and how sick of these things you are, they will keep pushing those buttons that just burn you up. He describes how “a zombie hides my face”, covering his true inner self. I just want to say, no matter what, find a way to voice your opinion. Even if you just want to keep to yourself, don’t hide what you want. At the end of the poem he repeats “You don’t need to bother, I won’t let go till it bleed.” Sounds like a desperate promise that even though he might have hit rock bottom in his life and has given up trying to ask his savior for help, he states he will be fine ultimately becoming a better person.

@Robderek I think you're projecting here. Taylor's an atheist, any attempt to read religiosity into the lyrics is misguided. I also see no ultimate affirmation of life at the end of the song, not sure where you're getting that either.

@Robderek you're on the right track

This song is unbelieveable. I had a hard time beliveing that this was actually Corey Taylor. He has an great voice, I think that he should write more slow quiet shit like this more often.

Slipknot or stone sour, This guy is such a creative writer.. all of his song's send shiver's down my spine.

-Nice one Corey-

Corey Taylor originally did this for the Spiderman Soundtrack. Now, Stone Sour is adding this to their self-titled debut to be released through Roadrunner Records in late 2002.

I love this song, it almost makes me cry. but cory also sang slow melodic songs for slipknot, like vermilion pt 2, and circle, and i think maybe a few more im not sure, but he has a great voice for both bands.

OMG! This song is fucking amazing! The lyrics are brilliant! The song is filled with emotion!

"You dont need to bother, i dont need to be" *I think this is pretty self-explanatory. Lets say hes talking about a girl, someone he loves, he saying that she doesnt have to worry or care about him, and he feels he doesnt really need to exist.

Never had a voice to protest, so you fed me shit to digest" I can totally relate to this! In fact i could say this exact sentence to someone and it would be completely true. Not having a voice to protest, in my opinion, means you dont stand up for yourself or your beliefs. When something wrong happens, or someone says or does something that you dont agree with, instead of confronting the issue, you just accept it. Which in turn, makes you very easy to be taken advantage of and walked all over. This is where the "fed me shit to digest" part comes in. To me, hes referring to all the bullshit she, or whomever, told him, or in other words, all the lies. Man, i can so relate to that part!

"I wish i had a reason, my flaws are open season, for this i gave up trying, one good turn deserves my dying" *Another part i can relate to! Saying that his flaws are open season could mean that they are revealed, or just exposed for everyone to see. He wishes he knew why! But because he doesnt, he gave up trying to figure it out...and he just figures that he gave it one good try, and that was enough.

This song is amazing! Everytime i listen to it, it always makes me feel something! One of my favorite songs ever (even though it is sad and depressing). I hope Corey keeps up with the slower songs like this one, Through Glass and Vermillion Pt. 2, they all ROCK and his voice is amazing!

ROCK ON!

Just a simple song about guilt. Taylor/Root FTW.

In Wikipedia Page it is said that Corey Tayler stated the song is about when he moved back to Des Moines from Denver, where he hoped to try to move forward with his music.

@AllMusicFan I read that, but there's no citation, and I really don't get how this could be about a move, or anything to do with music for that matter. Maybe about the reasoning behind the move, but that seems tenuous.
