The Blackest Years Lyrics

oh berlin your heart has been drawn and quartered again
the east and the west were divided by a wall
that staunched their freedom..well the wall came
down in 1989 but its ghost still refuses to leave
these hauntings are so reputative
theres a bit of you in me.. lets go
oh berlin your life is on fire it burns deep within
this heart of mine
you got astronamical, economical, suffering for a century
and when the ocean swells that day ill get on my ship
and ill sail away all this shit im on this ship

and when youre all alone dont forget me
cause when im all alone i wont forget you
when youre all alone dont forget me cause im
on the wrong side of the tracks

but i did not know until you turned youre back
im living the blackest years of my life
but i did not know until you said goodbye..goodbye

oh berlin your witness stands here
oh this cityshamed kinda day..im going home heyhey
im going home yeah im going home yeah im going home

when youre all alone dont forget me
when im all alone i wont forget you
i wont ever forget you
im on the wrong side of the tracks
i did not know until you turned your back
im living the blackest years of my life
i did not know until you said goodbye
goodbye!
im sorry gertie rouge

i'm surprised nobody has commented on this song. this is by far my favorite distillers song. it fascinates me the way she compares herself to the city of berlin. you'd think that is such a crazy comparison but it works beautifully. berlin is no longer divided, but the ghost of the segregation of east and west still remains. and just like there is an intangible division within berlin, there is some sort of intangible internal division within brody, or whomever can personally relate to this song. it's brilliant.i wonder if she's ever been there.

I suppose she's been there, at least by giving a concert there.

What about gertie rouge ?

She's very into historic things. She might've been there.

I heard somewhere Gerti Rouge was her friend back in Mebourne. Maybe she's the one who dresses up as Gypsy Rose Lee.

I love this song. The "I'm going home" part. It's the tits.
