I'm just the pieces of the man I used to be
Too many bitter tears are raining down on me
I'm far away from home
And I've been facing this alone
For much too long
Oh, I feel like no-one ever told the truth to me
About growing up and what a struggle it would be
In my tangled state of mind
I've been looking back to find
Where I went wrong

Too much love will kill you
If you can't make up your mind
Torn between the lover
And the love you leave behind
You're headed for disaster
'Cause you never read the signs
Too much love will kill you - every time

I'm just the shadow of the man I used to be
And it seems like there's no way out of this for me
I used to bring you sunshine
Now all I ever do is bring you down
Oh, how would it be if you were standing in my shoes
Can't you see that it's impossible to choose
No there's no making sense of it
Every way I go I'm bound to lose
Oh yes

Too much love will kill you
Just as sure as none at all
It'll drain the power that's in you
Make you plead and scream and crawl
And the pain will make you crazy
You're the victim of your crime
Too much love will kill you every time

Yes, too much love will kill you
It'll make your life a lie
Yes, too much love will kill you
And you won't understand why
You'd give your life, you'd sell your soul
But here it comes again
Too much love will kill you
In the end
In the end

Okay guys - I know it's a 'late' response to this but anyone that may come along and see this will see what this really is about. This is NOTHING to do with the 'energy' of love...geez.

Its simple, IF you've been the 'bad guy/a-hole' and lived thru this you know what this song is about...if not, you usually will sit back and judge me. Fine...but learn from it...don't make my mistake.

SCENARIO: You have to be truly in love with your lover/gf/wife...be an asshole and cheat on her (and yes - YOU CAN LOVE someone and be an idiot and cheat on them)...then you make the mistake of actually falling for a new lover/gf and then as if it's so easy you TRY to make up your mind try to follow your heart...and choose between the two. literally IMPOSSIBLE - to choose between the new lover and the lover you left behind.

IF you have ever been thru this I will tell you YOU know what this song means and you NEVER want to experience it. Simple as that.

Sure you can take a condescending tone and think - ahhh what an arse - he cheated..or SHE cheated and you deserve this...well - if you want to know what this song is about that is it in a nutshell.

It's HEARTBREAKING to see the woman you love...devastated and crying, destroyed because of what you did. Then all you want to do is make them feel better. Then you are breaking the heart of the 'new' lover...IF you have gone this route, it's an easy fall and easy track to destruction because you don't realize HOW FAST this crap can pull you in and torment you.

I personally went thru this experience many years ago...lost my love (my wife), because I thought...what she doesn't know won't hurt her...so many men may think this way and many of them do not care anyways (those men - do NOT understand this song), BUT many men TRULY do love their wives/lovers/gf's and make this stupid mistake ANYWAYS. It just is nature and the whims of mankind.

When I heard this song for the first time...I was about a year in trying to fix things with my wife...yet I was STILL in love with BOTH women...and love WAS KILLING ME. I wanted to be two people and make everyone happy and let us all love, I was tormented as I was tormenting them. I was..."just the pieces of the man I used to be"...and I was killing everything around me. I was the VICTIM OF MY CRIME. Because TOO MUCH LOVE WILL KILL YOU - EVERYTIME.

Anyone who goes thru this...learns from it. I will never hurt someone I love like this again.

TOO MUCH LOVE CAN KILL YOU - break you - destroy you and bring you to your knees...will hurt EVERYONE around you - beware...truly beware. These words/lyrics are words of WISDOM!!!!

This song is amazingly PROPHETIC. Written by a man who has BEEN THRU THIS and is a warning to anyone who will listen.

rip freddie and keep it going QUEEN!!!!!

Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988. "'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it." "There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."

This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,

Blue
Ed Sheeran
“Blue” is a song about a love that is persisting in the discomfort of the person experiencing the emotion. Ed Sheeran reflects on love lost, and although he wishes his former partner find happiness, he cannot but admit his feelings are still very much there. He expresses the realization that he might never find another on this stringed instrumental by Aaron Dessner.
