I was at the zoo today with my kids. You'll never guess what song came up when we saw the hippos! They sang: Hippo...hippo...hippo...!" As a long time TMBG fan, I just had to smile!

This song is wierd, even to be TMBG...

This song reminds me of a cartoon. I might have heard it in a cartoon or something, I dunno.

and my friend said the violin-lin-lin part is from some other song.

I didn't even think of George Washington's head being on a quarter, I feel kind of silly.

Maybe it's just me, but I always used to make up words to instrumental songs when I was little (for example, theme music from nintendo games). So I could totally picture a little kid whose parents played them a lot of classical music coming up with lyrics like "violin lin lin" and "mop! mopmop! mopmop! mopmopmop! mooooooopppp!" just based on the sound of different musical phrases played on a violin.

if it were a reference just to the quarter it would be all of george washingtons head 4 times, hes also on the dollar bill. When I hear that part of the song I always think of those magic tricks that involve making money appear/disappear

My parents listened to classical music all the time but I never thought of making up lyrics. I guess my friends and I were too enamored with "Joy to the World, Barney's Dead" and "Jingle Bells, Batman Smells".
