I Never Said That I Was Brave Lyrics
You might sleep, but you'll never dream
Onward! Progress! Or so it seems.
You might laugh, but you'll never smile.
Come on in and waste away awhile.
When dreams of rings of flowers fade and blur
Giving way to that familiar ill
come over and part your soft white curtains
Where I'm waiting for you still
If you'd unlatch the window,
If you'd let me lay there on your floor
If you'd give me another chance,
If you'd forget the pain I caused before
No use in saying how I'm sorry
So I'm trying not to speak
I'll sing in silence, lay beside you
With my face there on your cheek
My stomach swears there's comfort there
In the warmth of the blankets on your bed
My stomach's always been a liar-
I'll believe it's lies again.
Onward! Progress! Or so it seems.
You might laugh, but you'll never smile.
Come on in and waste away awhile.
Giving way to that familiar ill
come over and part your soft white curtains
Where I'm waiting for you still
If you'd unlatch the window,
If you'd let me lay there on your floor
If you'd give me another chance,
If you'd forget the pain I caused before
No use in saying how I'm sorry
So I'm trying not to speak
I'll sing in silence, lay beside you
With my face there on your cheek
My stomach swears there's comfort there
In the warmth of the blankets on your bed
My stomach's always been a liar-
I'll believe it's lies again.

In search of comfort, he chose sex. Then he found it was only fleeting. But once away from it, its the easiest one to get back, so he goes back. I love his honesty. Its so painful to go back to something like that, but obviously more painful to leave it even though its not where he knows True comfort comes from.
The lines "...lay beside you / With my face there on your cheek" also remind me of "I'm still wanting my face on your cheek" from Neutral Milk Hotel's "Two Headed Boy, Pt. 2".
I don't know if it's related, but the Leonard Cohen song "So Long, Marianne" has the line "I never said that I was brave..." in it.
Yep. Aaron has mentioned that before.

they know how to turn me inside out..
This song itself is amazing, but the acoustic version is fucking beautiful.
the whole if u'd unlatch the window part is so good... the fact that this guy just wants to lay on her floor to be in the same room as her is amazing
Beautiful.
Kind of bittersweet though.
this song kills me.
so I think that the "you might laugh but you'll never smile" comes from "the haunted palace" by edgar allan poe.
" While, like a rapid ghastly river, Through the pale door; A hideous throng rush out forever, And laugh — but smile no more."
whatever...maybe i'm wrong. but i'm pretty decently sure.
