Nice and Blue Lyrics
You were a song that I couldn't sing
you were a story I couldn't tell
I've only ever loved myself
But I've loved myself so well.
And how defeated I return!
(you're nice and blue, you're nice and blue)
I missed what I was supposed to learn
as all I learned about was missing you.
A life left half behind, though no longer
blind I can't yet see. I'm not the boy that
I once was, but I'm not the man I'll be.
I've been waiting now, for six years on
(and have only just begun)
For the day you'll hold her in your arms,
oh risen Lord, my precious one.
I was once the wine, and you the wineglass.
I was once alive, when you held me.
God became the glass,
all things left were emptiness
Oh, my little girl, if you look out
andsee a trace of dark red that used
to be my face, in the clarity of his
grace: remember me.
you were a story I couldn't tell
I've only ever loved myself
But I've loved myself so well.
And how defeated I return!
(you're nice and blue, you're nice and blue)
I missed what I was supposed to learn
as all I learned about was missing you.
blind I can't yet see. I'm not the boy that
I once was, but I'm not the man I'll be.
I've been waiting now, for six years on
(and have only just begun)
For the day you'll hold her in your arms,
oh risen Lord, my precious one.
I was once alive, when you held me.
God became the glass,
all things left were emptiness
Oh, my little girl, if you look out
andsee a trace of dark red that used
to be my face, in the clarity of his
grace: remember me.

"I missed what I was supposed to learn as all I learned about was missing you."
awesome
It's about a guy that feels like he is nothing without god when he says "I was once alive, when you held me" Great song The last part where has is talking about how he once was alive when he was held by god
ladies and gents....feast your eyes on the greatest lyricist of all time...erin weiss. if any of you havent seen these guys live..highly recomended. im not saying that i agree with everything he sings about, but their live performance brought tears to my eyes, and sent chills down my back, into every limb. these guys are so emotional with their stage show, its unreal. check them out!!!
RKTD... i think God is a part of this, but i beg to differ on the point that it's about God entirely... the entire CD is made up of sangs written about a broken relationship with his girlfriend... and yes, he incorporates God into a lot... but this song is again another AMAZING lyrical piece about that relationship between him and his girlfreidn which fell apart... this song is probably one of their songs which incorporates God more, continuously talking about his bad decisions and the girlfriend situation caused him turn back to God... etc. etc. amazing...
it's aaron, not erin. (he's a boy).
I would say this is a little bit about a broken relationship w/ a girl, but I think it's more of how he lost his way w/ God due to the girl. I think he's saying that when we turn away from God, we can't accomplish anything ("I missed what I was supposed to learn"). the only lesson we can learn away from God is that we need Him ("all I learned about was missing you").
"I've only ever loved myself But I've loved myself so well."
perfection. <3
thats what i love about mewithoutyou, their a christian band, but they dont whine about jesus. even atheist bands whine about jesus, just in a different way.
how about we stop arguing about trivial specifics and realize that all mewithoutYou songs contain lots of amiguity
interpret the song in whichever way you want, whether that be involving god or a relationship, all mewithoutYou songs contain elements of both
It is most certainly about God. However, I think it less about a broken relationship, but about how the narrator got right with God again and how he waits for the day that the girl will become a Christian/get right with God too.
"A life left half behind, though no longer blind I can't yet see. I'm not the boy that I once was, but I'm not the man I'll be."
