The Ghost Lyrics
I'll lie down for the last time
and fall well away from her
And I insist that I'll be dearly missed
(please, say never)
I'll pour down like water
In between the sky and doubt
we talked about 'forever'
and all our other useless words.
Until I say "in his silent sound was the
peace I found" but she hides behind
her eyelids. I feel the breath from
her nose on my neck as it blows by.
the warmth passes me (like her love did)
"But a tree once cut down
came up new from the ground"
she smiles a lie, "that may very well be,"
she replies "and so it goes,
it's the devil, I suppose but it doesnt matter much to me."
Put music to our troubles
and we'll dance them away.
From my left eye flow tears of joy,
of sorrow from my right.
"You might seem too strong to surrender,
boy, but you're far too frail to fight."
That old dull pain beats in my brain
it runs down my back into every limb-
And its more of the same
as the warmth that I seem to lack,
you'll neither find in him.
and fall well away from her
And I insist that I'll be dearly missed
(please, say never)
I'll pour down like water
In between the sky and doubt
we talked about 'forever'
and all our other useless words.

her eyelids. I feel the breath from

I think what Aaron was trying to say with this song was that he loves a girl but he can't be with her because she's not a christian. It seems like he tried to tell her about God "In His silent sound was the peace i found" and "But a tree once cut down , came up new from the ground" but she doesnt really care about "religon" and God so it hurts him. He is still happy though because he has God but is sad he can't have her "From my left eye flow tears of joy , of sorrow from my right". He is also saying that though she appears strong without God she is really frail on the inside hence the line "You might seem to strong to surrender(to God) boy but your far too frail to fight". It also seems like she ended up dumping him because "as the warmth that I seem to lack" but Aaron is saying now she wont find it in God because she wont "surrender" to him as said in the line "as the warmth that i seem to lack you'll niether find in Him." , and that's just what i think.
Thanks for your time!
I've always found Aaron's lyrics/words to be so powerful, almost biblical, which makes sense.
Effing amazing.
this is one of my favorite songs by this band. i love the line "put music to our troubles and we'll dance them away"
"put music to our troubles and we'll dance them away"
such a great great line... when i saw them live once at a hardcore fest i remember he said that he would much rather dance with his hips then his fists...
youwithoutme is dead on in my opinion. he's obviously been trying to tell this girl about Christ, but to no avail. look at "we talked about forever and all our other useless words". the girl simply doesn't care, see "it's the devil I suppose, but it doesn't matter much to me".
good analysis ya'll...i agree. and this is a beautiful song
amazing song. it has tons of meaning. youwithoutme is right on.
i don't think that anything about trying to tell a girl about Christ is obvious. i mean, this has been one of my favourite songs for years & i've never gotten that interpretation out of it. i always assumed the song was based purely on the relationship, with spiritual themes of apathy vs consideration. "we talked about forever & all our other useless words" i thought was refering to the future of their relationship. you know, young couples, always idealizing the future and making promises they can't keep. but who knows.
this whole song meanings thing would be much easier if aaron just signed up and told us the truth himself..
this song is sicknasty!!!! it dosnt sound like alot of songs. i tried searching for a video, or just the sound of it on youtube, but they didnt have it. Good thing i have limewire
